As per @Real_ESPNLeBrun Chris Phillips and OTT have agreed to 2 year contract at $2.5M per year. #Tradecentre
Good deal for Phillips and the team. He really didn't want to leave. Wife is from Ottawa, owns a business there, legacy player ( Alfredsson left ) etc. etc.
Best part for Phillips is he was his own agent in making the deal #moneysaved

Washington has to make a deal for a goalie, right? How crazy would it be for Halak to go there considering how he's the one who basically caused ownership to launch the ill-fated defensive focus era? If not Halak, then who? Thomas? Brodeur?

Interesting thing of note making the late rounds on twitter, has the Ducks as a potential suitor for Kesler. Biggest hurdle per Eric Stephens is not wanting to trade him in-conference/division. While I see the logic behind this, and that Vancouver has done it before with Schneider and the Oilers setting precedent, I also think this is a much different scenario. First, Schneider was much younger than Kesler. Second, goalies can remain elite longer than players like Kesler. Third, Schneider had 3 years remaining on his contract compared to Kesler's two. Fourth, organizationally Vancouver is in a much different place now than where they were when they traded Schneider and lastly, Edmonton is a much bigger perceived rival of Vancouver than Anaheim is. Really, at this point Vancouver is going for full rebuild. When they traded Schneider, they still thought of them as a contender and didn't want to potentially see Schneider on a strong Oilers team in a year or two. Kesler isn't going to be wreaking havoc on the Canucks the two years left in Anaheim because Vancouver isn't going to be a playoff competitive team in the next couple years. So that's not really something they have to worry about now. Honestly, for what Vancouver wants, is there any team better suited to trade Vancouver the package they want? With Silfverberg, Noesen, Palmieri, Maroon, Perrault, Etem, Friberg, Karlsson, Rakell, DSP, Lindholm, Vatanen, Bobkov (just assuming they aren't trading Gibson) they are just stocked with forward prospects that Vancouver has said they want and really have some guys to spare to get this done. I think they are the landing spot that makes the most sense, and honestly, if I'm Vancouver I think you have to be more focused on getting the absolute best package you can than worrying about which team you are sending him to.

Posted this in the ramblings, but might get more run here. My thoughts.

Chris Nichols is @nicholsonhockey is a worthwhile follow if you are not following him already. Usually a fantasy guy, but he is doing good deadline work. Following everyone who matters, compiling the highlights...kind of like what the "Insiders" do except he actually credits the sources and shows you their tweets.

In other news, Hemsky to Ottawa? Ick. Not quite what I was dreaming of, but I guess I will give him a week or two there if that's where he lands before dropping him.
