lol I saw someone on skating on the canal in Ottawa last weekend with a Habs Gomez jersey on. No joke, I saw him first from the side and had to take a second to remember who wore that number in MTL...
It's hard to see McDonagh's impact. I know he was regressing when the organization traded him... but man... lol.
As for the draft pick, sure Ev, it's decent, but geez.. you'd figure they'd have wanted more out of their investment/purchase in Conacher.. They took a gamble, I know, but man...

I'm not the biggest Conacher fan, but I'm surprised they couldn't get rid of him for at least a pick or something. I'm pretty sure someone will pick him up.

It was either Conacher or a 2nd from some other team (also Ryan Jones was another other offer, and some crap guy from Philly). It wasn't really a gamble, it was just a prospect for a prospect really. Bishop is a good goalie but not as good as he is playing now and he was an impending free agent. They chose Lehner over Bishop who everyone agreed and still agrees was the right call. Bishop wasn't going to be a Senator past last season. Oh well.
Conacher could still pan out, but he needs AHL time IMO.
Ouch. Can't believe all they'll have to show for the Bishop trade is that draft pick.
Agree with iamlilc - surprised they couldn't even get a late pick for him.
Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton, one of the bottom teams (NYI?) should claim this guy. No way they should let him pass. I agree he needs more AHL time, but it is a no risk move to claim him and those organisations aren't exactly stacked with assets to let one go.
Problem is he doesn't have much skill which is what the bottom teams need. He's like a Ryan Shannon type player. He has character and hustle which is good.
Prospect for a prospect sounds like a gamble to me. They gambled on Conacher (the leading rookie scorer at the time) to pan out as a contributor for them. knowing full well what they were losing in Bishop (who yes, I agree has a lower ceiling than Lehner). I do think Bishop is as good as he's showing though, but them's the ways of a business and the NHL. You can't keep all of your prospects and trading from a position of depth is not only a viable strategy, but an encouraged one.
They made out like bandits on the Methot deal.. And history shows goalies don't always get traded for the best returns.. so add this one to the bunch. I don't think he can pan out as a scorer in the NHL for a long term period. Short spurts of contribution, but limited shelf life on his game (like on Brendan Gallagher's.. to make a comparison).
Still, quite a fall from relative grace...

Sorry Ev, but I just cant agree with this. Players with not much skill just don't win scoring races at professional levels. He might not have elite skill, but he had enough skill to keep up with MSL and Stamkos and still produce (great linemates yes, but you still have to be able to hang with them), and regardless of who his linemates were at the time with Syracuse, he outscored all of them and the rest of the league. Sure he might not have the high end talent of a Kucherov type, but he definitely has top 6 upside skill-wise if he can find his game and put it all together.
