Seems like a small return for Chicago. A bit strange.

Apparently he asked to be traded. He was buried in Chicago. Will be interested to see what he can do with his opportunity in Florida. One thing, Tallon should know what he's getting.

Pretty sure Pirri was going to lose waiver-exemption. You see these kinds of deals sometimes when that situation arises.

For Pirri if there was ever an opportunity this is it. As for the trade, he wasn't going to fetch much on the trade market. Not established and doesn't have the hype of being someone's former #1 pick.

Is this part of some sort of future considerations? I mean, I get the loss of waiver exemption as an excuse but at the same time they just gave him away. You'd think they could have used him as they used Olsen to bring in a little more depth.

    That Florida-Chicago pipeline keeps flowing.

I think so. Tallon took Campbell and gave away Versteeg and now the Hawks give a nice deal for Pirri. keep in mind it was the same deal that the Hawks received for Dobber favorite, the Porsche-plow Michael Frolik.

As a Hawks fan, I would have liked a little more but they were never getting a 1st round pick for Pirri and is there that much difference between a 2nd vs a Florida 3rd and 5th?

Not a huge return, but getting a decent draft pick for a player they would have either scratched or lost for nothing is fine with me.

The bigger positive is that other players see this. A player in Pirri that can be an NHL'er on some teams (just not the Hawks) that instead of scratching or holding onto for "depth", they allow him to move on and get his chance to prove himself. Not that the Hawks need help attracting free agents, but it's just such a classy move.

Gonna be interesting to see where he fits in on Florida's depth chart.

Trochek is obviously their best minor league center and could easily be up in the NHL today but they are playing it smart and slow with him.

That being said, sounds like a sound investment and small payment for Florida. Looks like a good deal for them IMO.

Not saying they are the same type of player but maybe this makes it easier to trade Matthias.

The Hawks decided to play Peter Regin instead. This should tell you how they viewed Pirri at the moment. There are lots of guys like Pirri in the AHL.

Pirri can't do what Regin does. Pirri = pretty useless as a checker. It's boom or bust. A lot of guys close to Pirri in the AHL, but as it goes in all cases other than the elite prospects - they need the right fit or they'll be stuck in purgatory. Pirri just increased his odds of finding that fit by going to a new team
