No big loss. The Sabres are in good hands with Murray.
CBC is reporting that Pat Lafontaine has left the Sabres.............

Whoa! After 3 months. I never took him for a quitter, but that's what it looks like. Jeez.
Maybe the miller deal had something to do with this? It just seems so sudden. Or maybe he didn't have as much control as he thought he would have? Seems very strange that this occurred at this time and so soon after coming on
Pure speculation but word is he wanted Miller kept, and my thinking is this has something to do w/ Nolan's contract extension. I'm guessing Lafontaine is a bit of a micro-manager?
This certainly boosts Murray's street cred.

Well that was over quick.

Sounds like he wasn't really included in the consultation before the Miller trade - so hence he took that as a sign to leave...........
As per Coach's Corner, sounding like Murray went straight to ownership and bypassed Patty (who wanted to keep Miller?), and it obviously rubbed him. While, I understand the rub, Murray, I thought, did a great job accommodating Miller and getting a solid package. I guess he wanted the deal done early so he could concentrate on other players deals. Not an easy job, and so far so good IMO.

...or something like that.

Maybe I'm mistaken on the roles of personnel in management in the NHL executives but I thought the General Manager was there to deal with player transactions, contracts and dealing with the coaching staff. Isn't that why they hire a GM?? I can appreciate that most Presidents probably have little to do in the run of the day other then appease the owners but for Lafontaine to quit after Miller got dealt is kinda petty in my eyes. Murray came in and I am sure was given a clear directive from Terry Pegula to clean house. Surprised Lafontaine left due to a Miller deal when the writing was pretty much on the wall for many months before he got there.
