Default Halak vs. Bishop (both FA's in my Keeper)

First time poster, full time lurker.

I'm looking to add an extra goalie in my keeper pool, so thought I'd come to the experts.

Both Halak and Bishop are available right now, who do I pick up?
I know they're both hot, but will either get 60 starts this yr?

In our pool, Wins = 2 pts, SO= an additional 3 pts.

    Advice is appreciated.

Tough call to make right now just because Bishop is hot! You would have to think Halak on the blues is the stronger choice but Bishop is really attractive. I liked Bishop a lot on Ottawa last year so if he can backstop the Lightning to a successful year then he is the real deal. I would say higher risk/reward with Ben.

If they would be a fringe keeper it's Halak for me. He's going top get the lion's share unless he implodes or gets hurt. He's playing very well and has great team defense in front of him. I picked him up shortly after our draft and he's been my best goalie so far. Bishop is the backup and that won't change.

Bishop has been Tampa's starter... And has played well.

That said, I still prefer Halak on St. Louis just because he's a more proven commodity and I could see Brian Elliott getting dealt by season's end. Just know that Halak has been known to get hurt from time to time....

How is Halak available? Grab him!

Unless this is a super shallow league, which I suspect it must be. Who would you be dropping to grab him?

PS - Have some rep. Looks like you have none.

Welcome to active duty, JasonPAM. Halak is the right call for a couple of reasons - plays on a better team so more wins and SHO for you, likely at this point in development, a better goalie than Bishop as well.

Yup, you're correct. Total brain fart...I was thinking of Ottowa for some reason??? However I still prefer Halak in this situation.

If you want a goalie to help you win this year, I'd go Halak.

If you want a goalie that is better long term, I'd gamble on Bishop.

Halak is UFA after this year, and may not end up in StL long term. Plus I don't like the fact that I've read he showed up in camp this year in the best shape of his life....in a contract year. I do wonder if he'll have the same motivation next year?

So my advice is...Halak to win now, or Bishop for the longer term.
