    Default Help selecting 3 keepers

    Point Only League in Sig
This is a keep 9 league but I'm only having a tough time deciding on my final 3

    Already Keeping
    Tavares
    Giroux
    P.Kane
    Toews
    Getzlaf
    Kopitar

Out of the remaining players on my roster I've narrowed it down to:
    Yakupov
    Stepan
    Wheeler
    E.Kane
    Keith
    Doughty
    Niemi

I've been leaning towards keeping Stepan,Wheeler,Yakupov but this strategy is risky keeping 9 forwards instead of going for a more balanced approach.

Any advice is appreciated. Rep to all.

Seems a shame to leave E. Kane off of there but with assists given the same weight as goals the others are probably better options. In a 9 team league there should be plenty of talent available at D and G to draft. I'd stick with your best 9 players and those happen to be the forwards you've selected IMO.

    stepan, kane, niemi

I feel like you need to keep a goalie, and niemi is solid.

picking stepan over wheeler because I think rangers top line is going to rip it up this season with new coaching approach.

kane > yakupov, even if points only... its close... but in multi cat, definitely.

Kane, Niemi and a toss up between Stepan/Wheeler. I'd give the nod to Wheeler because you're already keeping four true centers.

Edit: WHOOPS! Didnt even see Yak on the list.

Kane, Yak and Niemi -- Look to trade a center mid year.

EKane, Wheeler and Niemi would be my keepers.

Tough leaving Stepan and Yakupov off the list but with your current list of keepers you should have a very good team next season, and further down the road as well. Either way you go, you are going to have to shed a couple solid skaters.

    Yakupov, Stepan, Niemi.

Niemi will be very good points in your format.
Stepan is my choice here but Kane and Wheeler could also be had, I just like Stepan's supporting cast a lot more
Yakupov has top end talent and, while very useful this year, could be a more useful keeper next year as EDM gets better and better every year.

    just my two cents.

I think I'd go with Wheeler, Yakupov and Niemi. I don't like being without a solid goalie, and Niemi is that. Wheeler is a lock, in my opinion, and it would come down to EKane and Yakupov for the final spot, and I would lean towards Yakupov. I think Kane's great, and he'll put up points, but Yak has a higher ceiling. I would take the hit on a tad less production for a year or two to cash in on that upside later.

Have you exhausted all trading possibilities? Maybe you can pull off some 2 for 1 deals using players like Yakupov in order to get some upgrades? In a keep 9, 9-team league, your quality of players just seems like there are deals just waiting out there for you.

    Good luck.

I did try to make some 2 for 1 deals prior to my trade deadline in season. Problem was I was in first by a lot and none of the other GMs wanted to give an upgrade. Even attempted a couple 3 for 1 trades.

Sadly this is a league that doesn't allow offseason trades so I'm stuck losing some good players no matter what.

What kind of a horse sh!t keep league doesn't allow off season trades? That's the craziest thing I've ever heard, lol. Really too bad, as you are definitely losing some gems.

First of all, in a keep 9, you have to keep a goaltender. Niemi is as solid as they come and will get you close to 90 points in this format.

I believe Derek Stepan is severely underrated. In my mind, he's a lock for 60 points and has 70-point upside on the Rangers first line playing alongside Rick Nash. Plus, with Alain Vigneault now the head coach, I believe the Rangers PP is going to get better and their best PP player is Stepan.

Then, I believe it's a toss between Wheeler and Kane. If you're in win now mode, I'd go with Wheeler because he's on the top line and a guarantee for 60-65 points. If you're looking for longterm upside, I think Kane has the potential to be a 35-35 guy in a couple of years when the Jets get better up front.

I would not keep Yakupov but I'm personally not high on him. I think he's one-dimensional and that defenses will figure him out easily. He should remain a good goal-scorer but I doubt he'll get many assists. If your league was more goal-heavy, then he'd be an option.

    Good luck!

With that kind of a top 6, you are already well placed to contend. I too think that a Goalie is needed, and according to me, the 3 remaining spots giving you the best chance to win for years to comen, should go to:

E Kane (I think he has another gear in him)
Yakupov (Great potential, may take a couple more years to get to elite level but till then you have amazing depth), and
Niemi (the Solid Goalie that I think you need)
League 1: 2021 Dobber Entry (Patrick), Yahoo Roto, 10 Teams
    4C, 4LW, 4RW, 6D, 2G start; 5 Bench
    Skaters: G, A, +/-, PPP, SOG, Hits
    Goalies: W, Saves, GAA

    Forwards:
    C: Malkin, ROR, Backstrom
    LW: Forsberg, Parise
RW: Gallagher, Hornqvist, D Brown, Kessel
Dual Eligibility: Svechnikov, Jamie Benn, Radulov, Domi, Rakell, Pavelski
Defense: Hamilton, Letang, OEL, Suter, Spurgeon, Girard
    Goalies: Vasilevskyi, Lehner, Mrazek, Reimer
