Default Who would you draft first?

At the end of September, my league will be holding our draft for what will be the first season in a Keep 10 Keeper League. We won't know the draft order until the day of the draft, but if you were drafting first overall (scoring cats in sig), who would you take?

    G (3), A (2), +/- (1), PIM (0.1), PPP (1), FOW (0.1), FOL (-0.1), BLK (0.5), HAT (3), W (5), SO (3), SV (0.1), GA (-0.5)

C (3) - Schmaltz (LW, RW), Mercer (RW), Norris (IR), Domi (LW), T. Johnson (RW), Nosek (LW)

I'd take Crosby first. With those cats plus face-offs he will be the MVP of the league if healthy and I would roll the dice on those injury issues being behind him too.

    Gotta go Crosby.

Stamkos might be "safer" but Crosby is an all-time, top-10 player in the prime of his career.

Yeah, the face-offs make that a lock.

Stamkos and Malkin are both perhaps more reliable, but in Crosby's last full season he was +200 in the face-off circle... and an extra 40pts is nothing to sniff at.
(actually more like an extra 60pts since Stamkos and Malkin are both sub 50% on the draw)

I think Stamkos is the second best option, he's younger and healthier than Crosby, his production tends towards goals, and his face-off % seems to be improving.

Alright, well I pretty much expected that answer. Anyone care to venture a top 10 in this setup, keeping the future in mind of course.

Based on Dobber raings (using 3yp, upside and this year), my list goes:

    Sidney Crosby
    Evgeni Malkin
    Alex Ovechkin
    Steven Stamkos
    John Tavares
    Claude Giroux
    Nicklas Backstrom
    Ryan Nugent-Hopkins
    Taylor Hall
    Anze Kopitar

Although based on my gut, I'd probably move Stamkos to 2nd. And drop RNH from that list and replace him with Patrick Kane.

You'd put Karlsson on that list with no positional requirements?

Forwards only or split by position?

You should put this info and starters in your signature.

Well, that changes everything, lol. Zorro's list looks good to me. Although I'm not as high on Karlsson as most. He'd make me nervous using my first pick on him.

I'm not sure I would take him with my first pick either... it would be tempting though.

I'm surprised Backstrom and Kopitar are ranked in the top ten in the lists posted. I know Backstrom had that one 100-point season, and Kopitar has been fairly consistent, but I think I'd take Toews ahead of both of them, with faceoffs and +/- being counted. If the Hawks powerplay ever wakes up, that would be an added bonus.

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree with the near universal 'Malkin at #2' sentiment here...

Using this scoring system Malkin has been outscored handily by Stamkos and Toews in 3 of the last 4 years. "But Loch," you say "Malkin was hurt and missed a few games".

    Fine, let's go points/game then.
    Malkin:
    3.06
    2.20
    4.32
    3.23

    Stamkos
    3.44
    3.27
    3.44
    3.35

    Toews
    3.36
    3.64
    3.79
    4.29

Malkin is still bottom of the pile in all but one year, Stamkos is pretty consistent.... and holy shit is Toews' production ever trending upwards.

So yeah, I say take Stamkos at #2, being 4yrs younger and punishingly consistent has value to me. I'd also probably take Ovi over Malkin since he has been solid in non-Hunter years (and was absolute dynamite in the last real Boudreau year with a p/g of 5!)

Oh, and in case anyone was questioning Crosby at #1, his points/game for the last 4 years:
    4.66
    5.69
    5.12
    5.19
    Daaaamn.
