Lehner all the way. Better team, great in the A, great in his Ottawa starts.
Who do you like long term in a points only keeper?
2 points for win, 1 for ot/so loss, 2 for a shutout
Points only keeper league 10 manager - Score top 12 F, 6 D, 2 G
1pt for G or A - 2pts for W -1pt for OTL/SOL - 2pts for SO
Draft 30 - Keep 20 - 10 round draft every year.

Lehner for me. He's proven he can win (Calder cup) and he's been great during the handful of games over the past 2 seasons.

It's closer than people think. I like the direction Florida is going ( long term). Markstrom is a beast. I still side with Lehner but Markstrom is a solid option to own long term. Both goalies are highly coveted. You do not go wrong with either one.
Long term I prefer Lehner. I have said this many times, I dont trust goalies who have had a history of injuries to their knees and that is exactly what Markstrom has had over his short career.
Theres no doubt that Markstrom has the skill, but playing on a weaker team and his knee problems has kept me away from wanting to own him. The fact that Lehner is probably just as good in nets and playing on a better team makes this choice that much easier for me.

Both are ready for the NHL.
Markstrom for me. Opportunity must knock. It is knocking in Florida. Anderson prevents opportunity from knocking in Ottawa at this time. It's quite a task for Lehner to displace Anderson. So definitely Markstrom at this time. Unless Florida signs another tender...
If they allow Markstrom 50 starts or more, his value sky rockets against Lehner. You would then be able to trade him for Lehner ++.
Lehner is not likely to get more than 30 starts, maybe 20 starts, this coming year.
Long term. Both should eventually be starters. They both show the potential to be excellent starters. Their values will be reflected as much by the teams they play for, as by their play.
Quite frankly, I believe Florida has a better chance to be in the finals over the next 10 years, than Ottawa. Florida's stars are slowly and steadily building.
Ottawa has a fine core. The stars are now in their prime, other than Karlsson/Lehner. I would suggest they over achieved last season. The saving grace is that they get the boost of Karlsson/Spezza. Many of their prospects should be solid NHLers, but not necessarily stars. Ottawa definitely looks to have the better team today.
What happened to Florida since winning the SE division 2 years ago?

for this year at least Markstrom is the starter, Lehner is a backup so that decision is pretty easy. Longer term they're both very talented goalies so it's not clear which will be the more dominant. Markstrom certainly has the red carpet rolled out for him, he's been brought along slowly so that his starting role coincides with a dramatically improving team so the outlook for him is rosy for sure. Lehner unfortunately is stuck behind Anderson so it really depends how Ottawa deals with his expiring ELC. If recent history is any indication they will try to lowball him into a long, cheap contract. If he has any sense he'll turn that down and hope for an offer sheet from another team, if he does wind up on another team he could make a big splash much like what we've seen with Rask, Rinne, Quick in recent years, if not he'll likely languish as an overqualified backup for several years before getting a starting gig

I'll go Markstrom.
Lehner could be the future of Ottawa... but maybe not.
Many of us thought that Bernier would eventually be the guy in LA.
Many of us thought that Schneider would eventually be the guy in VAN.
We assume that Lehner is the future of Ottawa, but OTT has been nothing but solid in the Craig Anderson era... so why change that?
Too much uncertainty in Lehner's future role.
Markstrom, for me.
(even if it is only 30W in 70 starts... it's still 30W).
