    Question MacKinnon a keeper ?

I have tried in vain to trade for a top end player (Sid, Malkin, Giroux, Stamkos, Tavares, Ovie) and it's just not going to happen.
League is a partial (6) keeper with no farm team.
I have 1st pick overall, do I take a chance on MacKinnon and live with the growing pains as I have no where to stash him?
    Appreciate the comments.

    Yes.

Over the past decade or so, few have had the pre-draft hype that MacKinnon has. These would include:

The players with greatest pre-draft hype have included:
    - Crosby
    - Tavares
    - Hall
    - MacKinnon

The hockey world does not often almost universally know the names of 16 year olds.

Notice I have not mentioned Ovy, Malkin, Stamkos...

Tavares, Hall & MacKinnon were far ahead of their peers as 16 year olds. The gap seemed to narrow as they came to their draft year. They grew very steadily once they reached the NHL. Their points spikes should arrive before the age of 25. This is quite traditional with potential Hall-of-Famers. They are all in NHL size bodies and have shown the ability to handle the stresses associated with being in a high profile jobs.

I think most Fantasy owners would like to own Crosby, Tavares, Hall. So, I think there's an excellent chance that MacKinnon is the same.

I'd bet on MacKinnon. Worst case scenario is a couple seasons that aren't dominating before you're happy for a decade.

    I would.

By the time the blue-chips have finally established themselves, you'll have the same issue you do today trying to trade for one of them.

In a limited keeeper, I always try to keep one in the last slot...your 6th, then only move him for an upgrade.

There are so many players available in the draft in a keep 6 that you can always draft better later and make up any differences lost by keeping an average player better established.

You take Mackinnon all day long. No brainer.

He has the talent..etc to be in the league elite.

Definitely draft Mackinnon. Very rarely do 1st overall picks not pan out to be at least near-point per game players.

Usually in the 18-year old season, theyll put up a 50ish point pace. Sooner or later theyll soar.

    2013: Mackinnon
2012: Yakupov (so far so good)
    2011: Nugent-Hopkins (good)
    2010: Hall (good)
    2009: Tavares (good)
    2008: Stamkos (good)
    2007: Kane (good)
2006: Erik Johnson (first forward was Jordan Staal, arguably not good)
    2005: Crosby (good)
    2004: Ovechkin (good)
2003: Fleury (first forward was Eric Staal, good)
    2002: Nash (good)
    2001: Kovalchuk (good)
2000: Dipietro (first forward was Dany Heatley, good)
1999: Stefan (fail. second and third were the Sedins)
    1998: Lecavalier (good)
    1997: Thornton (good)
One day I will quit fantasy hockey, today is not that day.

You must be new to the game.

Ovy had the predraft hype as well as Stamkos.

Ovechkin was a known at 14 years (similar to Sid) and Stammer was known 3 years before his draft year and hyped.

Based on his signature (keeper league since 1993), and over 4,000 posts on this site, I'm going to take a wild stab and say he is not new to the game.

Drouin is my 1st overall pick...but MacKinnon will be pretty good too. Either have to be considered among the upper echelon of best players to keep in dynasty leagues.

    Team in your sig?

Because if its that one you'll need to cut one of backstrom eberle yak letang landeskog Seguin.

That's not so cut and dry that he's a keeper.

That said draft him for sure and run your year with the thought in the back of your mind that Mackinnon and eberle need to be traded two for one for one of the elite.

    bletchley,

If you feel a need to piss on other posters like this, would you mind doing so back on HF Boards?

Around here, we figured out that disagreeing with someone and being respectful are not mutually exclusive.

Cheers and welcome to the DH forums.
