Default 1st off-season in keeper - who to keep?

    14 team H2H
G, A, +/-, PIM, SOG, PPP, SHP, BLK
    W, SV, SV%, GAA, SO
23 man roster, Keep any 10

I think we are going to drop SHP and add hits and maybe drop 1 goalie cat altogether, but I dont think this will really impact the keeper decision

League just finished its first year so nobody has gone thru the keeper exercise yet and we dont have a drop day so all players on year end roster are still 'owned'

F: Ovechkin, P.Kane, Ryan, Yakupov, M.Richards, Berglund, Doan, Iginla, B.Schenn, Clowe, Ott, Galiardi
D: Subban, OEL, Kronwall, Carlson, Kulikov, JBo
    G: Price, Fleury, Kipper

I havent listed all my players, only those that are even remotely relevant (some I would never keep but may try to trade, there are some pretty weak teams out there)

This is what I am thinking for now:
Ovie, Kane, Ryan, Yakupov, Subban, OEL, Price, Fleury are locks IMO

So pick 2 from the rest

I'm looking at doing 2 for 1 deals to try and add another bona fide keeper but I'll keep that for another post

    Thanks
    12 team H2H Keep 10
    G A +/- PIM STP PIM HIT BLK / W GAA SV SV% SO
    12F, 6D, 2G, 3BN

F: Ovechkin, Mackinnon, Wheeler, E.Kane, Athanasiou, Duchene, JVR, Nyqvist, Buchnevich, DeBrusk, Galchenyuk, Crouse
D: Josi, Subban, Barrie, Yandle, Nurse, Edler, Schultz
    G: Holtby, Fleury, Markstrom

I like Carlson and Berglund. Iggy and Kronwall are close, but when it's close I go with the younger guys in a keeper format.

Iginla and Kronwall for me. People are quick to write off Iginla, but he was PPG during his time in PIT, and he's assured top-6 PP1 minutes in Boston.

For a team that looks like it is contending, I wouldn't wait around for a Centerman who hasn't even broken out, and a Dman who is buried in really tough minutes. You're better off keeping players who will help you now as opposed to potential studs who might help you down the road. It seems like MattP is obsessed with potential, whereas production is what wins you championships.

Kronwall for sure, he should be one of your locks.

And I agree with mounD, Iginla should be your final keeper. It was a toss up between him and Richards.

    His quote is this

All of those guys are ridiculously young. So should he keep some older guys that give him a smaller window to win or guys that will be around a decade from now when Yakupov,OEL,Subban r in their prime. His team is so young they are still getting better. I don't get why you would risk your longterm future for like 10 points this season. It's a keeper league. Not just a one year thing.
Seems like in any keeper mound would rather have a 36 year old that may put up 60 pts 4 more years is 240 pts. A 40 pt player that has a decade left will get 400 hundred pts. In keeper formats older guys have less value. He's thinking for one year teams. Let go of the past old man. Out with the old in with the new. Always build towards the present and the future.

MattP yes and no. Your theory then says you would someone like Huberdeau over Datsyuk which is a terrible call. Youth matters, but it's not the only determining factor, and Ovie, Ryan, Price, and Fluery aren't that young. I'm coming around on Iginla as the final keeper, and I'm sorry Matt but your prevailing theory of "points left" just is wrong. You don't keep 40 point players over 60+ point players because they have more "career points" left. You do that only if you think said 40 point player is going to be equal or better than the 60+ point player soon. There is no indication that is the case with Berglund or Carlson.

Kronwall and Richards/Iginla for me please.

If you do end up adding hits, I would give Ott some serious consideration in a H2H format. He is an absolute monster in PIM & Hits and would go a long way to shoring each of them up while putting up some points as well.

I would go Richards/Ott if you add hits.

I would go Richards/Kronwall if you don't add hits.

As much as I like Kronwall for HITS - you can find a specialist - I cannot justify keeping him over Carlson who is in the same class as OEL, arguably ahead of OEL in some circles. I don't see how you keep one and not the other. Both are young, studly Dmen - those don't grow on trees. My last spot would go to Iginla. Boston will use him correctly. I expect a sick year from him.

    Carlson and Iginla.

Kronwall and Iginla would be my choices. Should give you immediate production, and you've got plenty of "youngish" or players in their prime, so having some "now" production is complementary to the rest of your roster and keeps you in a "win now" position.
14-team keeper, Fantrax weekly H2H roto match-ups, daily rosters, 4 waiver moves per week
    8 Skater Cats (G,A,PPP,SOG,PIM,HIT,BS,FOW) and 3 Goalie Cats (W,GAA,SV%)

Start C/C/LW/LW/RW/RW/F/F/D/D/D/D/D/G/G/Util, + 4 bench spots (20 player roster size + 1 IR spot as per Fantrax IR settings)
Keep 10 players (and 8 prospects w/ less than 25 GP), 10 round entry draft (5 round prospect draft)

2013-14: 1st place reg. season, 3rd in Playoffs
C - Giroux, Getzlaf, Kadri, Gagner
LW - Kunitz, JVR, Schenn (C/LW), Girgensons (C/LW)
RW - Carter (C/LW/RW), Hossa, Pominville, Perron (LW/RW)
D - Doughty, Josi, Edler, Cowen, Gorges
    G - Andersen, Halak
