It definitely will hurt your short term so to me it depends how hard you are trying to win now vs in the future.
This an over pay to get stamkos?

I don't think I would make this move. Your remaining forward options to protect (Simmonds, Hartnell) aren't really that valuable in points-only formats. Thus, the downgrade from MSL would be pretty significant.
I see Tavares as an 80-point forward, Stamkos a 90-point forward.
I see MSL as a 75-point forward, Hartnell/Simmonds as 60-point forwards.
You're downgrading 15 points on the MSL--Hartnell side in order to gain a mere 10 points on the Tavares--Stamkos side. Plus, Tavares is still arguably improving each year and has all the potential to equal Stamkos' value in points-only within the next couple years.
Stand pat.

I may be alone in this but I really think that Tavares is better than Stamkos long term. I see what Stammer has done (I do think he is great) but if you put St. Louis (or similar) with JT, I think you would have similar if not better results. JT has made Moulson a household name practically all on his own. Perhaps straight up the deal makes sense, although I think JT has a more balanced G/A differential then Stammer.
So long as you're not trying to win next season, I'd make that move. Stamkos playing w/ Drouin should be even better and MSL is going to play 2, maybe 3 more years tops. Ideally, if you knew you were looking to rebuild and get a top pick, this would be a great move.

I think it is an overpay, is there anything that can be added to the Stamkos side to equalize it a bit? Tavares is a notch below Stamkos, but not a huge gap between the two, especially long term. Something would needto be added to the Stamkos side to make this a fair deal, IMO, like a mid-tier prospect, 50 point forward, or a 2nd/3rd rou d draft pick.

If it was a FOW, I'd like Tavares. If more pts toward goals, then, Stamkos. In short it is an overpay. Tavares and Stamkos are close. See if he can add another piece: player, pick or prospect.

I say good deal for you.
You have to see it like this:
Tavares + St.Louis
vs
Stamkos + 6th keeper
I would keep Kronwall here.
Or maybe you can see wich player becomes his 7th keeper with this 2 for 1 and try to make him add him to the deal, if he's an improvement over Kronwall or Hartnell.

I'm another Tavares supporter.
The NHL Super Elites are: Crosby (injury concerns), Malkin, Karlsson (D).
Hot on their heals are: Ovy, Stamkos (more 50's maybe, but no more 60's), Tavares (still rising).
St. Louis is very, very special, being a winger. A rare Elite RW.
Taylor Hall may have joined this group.
I'll leave goalies out of the discussion.
Elite for Elite/Elite(age)
I'd keep my Tavares/St Louis
I prefer Tavares/MSL in points-only.
But... in this limited keeper (keep 6)... it can be very, very, very close based on the strength of the "promoted keeper" on the team getting Stamkos.
Pretty even.
How is Malkin a "Super Elite" and Stamkos not? I'd put them on par when you factor in past production, age + potential. Also, goals are harder to come by than assists, in which case Stamkos wins.
Regardless, personally I would take the trade, but only if a small piece is added to the deal that would be an upgrade over your 6th keeper. Right now I'd say it's a pretty fair swap, but I'd jump on it if you can get anything additional to help.
I may be able to pull this deal off with Tavares, Spezza, and a first Round pick (9th) for Stamkos but I don't think that will really help my team out. With Tavares up and coming, and the chance that Spezza might actually play a full season, Im not sure. I think it would probably be smarter to hang on to Tavares/Spezza/Draft pick and go into next season with a well rounded top six/seven.
