Gonchar can still be somewhat productive but in salary cap leagues he isn't worth $5 million. Unless you still have lots of extra cap space available after you've filled out the rest of your roster, I'd suggest dropping him.
So he got traded to the Stars and signed for $5m. I have him in my cap league and I'm debating dropping him. He should be the go to guy on their power play but I'm concerned about his age at this point. My team is going to have a lot of turnover this season. I'm losing 12 players most likely so I have plenty of cap space but lots of cap space to fill as well. Anyone think he's worth $5m in a cap league? Same settings as the league in my sig but its a different team.

I think Gonchar will produce decently (41 points in 75GP type of thing) but the $5m hit could be better spent most likely.

In the league in your sig he is an easy drop. I don't see him being a 40-point guy in Dallas. He had a good contract year in Ottawa but before that he wasn't great at all.

i agree with the others, that's cap better spent elsewhere
I play in a 12-team league with a +$25m salary cap (so $89.3m, for $64.3m cap).
We roster 25 active skaters.
Last season I let Gonchar sit on my AHL team all season.
In cap leagues, you need to spend every penny and get the most stats.
But mostly, I find that you should roster maybe one or two big D men and then fill the rest with cheap guys that still help in other categories.
Here's my 6 defensemen (actual salaries) that I'll be starting next season with:
8.000 Chara, Zdeno
3.500 Visnovsky, Lubomir
1.500 *McQuaid, Adam
1.000 *Stoner, Clayton
0.750 *Harrison, Jay
0.575 *MacDonald, Andrew
Starting the season in my AHL (no hit on cap, I'll call 'em up if I have injuries to big $$$ players):
7.143 Campbell, Brian
5.000 Gonchar, Sergei
