i like kopitar as an 82-85 point player with a chance to flirt with 90 on occasion

Agreed. Patrice Bergeron type of guy. Better hockey player than fantasy player.

kopitar is in the top 30 forwards in points post lockout

i would say that is a pretty damn good fantasy player as well as nhl player

he has more points in fewer games than guys like perry and parise who are generally considered quite highly in fantasy circles

True, but the big difference why Parise and Perry are generally regarded higher is because they play wing, not center.

If Kopitar was a wing with his kind of production he would have significantly higher value.

As it is though, Kopitar makes for a good #1 center on most teams but there are a fair amount of equal or better fantasy centers.

he was 11th among centers in points during that time period

so he is a number 1 center in any 12 or more team league

perry is 7th among RWs and 15th among all wings

parise is 7th among LWs and 18th among all wings

better yes but not by enough to consider them fantasy elite and him not

Is there somewhere this is kept track of or did you just throw it out assuming nobody would argue? Lol. How many players of those 30 are centers? 15? So if he is the 15th best fantasy center but (some would argue) the third or fourth best center overall in the league, then he is a much better real life player than fantasy player. It isn't an insult, it's just a fact.

there is a second post indicating where he falls among centers

ONLY if you are Bergeron's mother... otherwise, the comparison is a perfect fit.

    yeah, it was pretty lame...

i just think bergeron and kopitar are perfect comparisons for real-life value in terms of what they contribute to help their teams win games and both are far more valuable in real-life compared to fantasy.

kopitar has had 2 seasons in his career less than 73 points (this past season excluded of course) while bergeron has had a single 73 point season and all the rest have been lower

i am sorry but to me the two really arent comparable

I think that's fair but you'd have to give the edge to Kopitar, in terms of offensive stats.. He does a lot of those intangibles and still usually keeps a PPG pace..

points are only one factor in a player's value. what these two guys do without the puck is what seperates them from so many others. i would have no trouble stating both are top 10 skaters in the game - far more valuable than guys like perry or parise, who were mentioned above. there is a reason these guys are winners and why a guy like bergeron has won at every level he has ever played at.
