Fantrax TAHL 2013 & 2018 Champion
The SIG really needs more work.
How many F & how many D do you count?
I'm looking at your SIG and seeing Hall, RNH, Eberle... three EDM.
The only chance you have at winning is for EDM to explode offensively.
IF that happens, Justin Schultz is also likely to have big points.
SO...
1. Schultz.
This is a theory I've called the "dice theory".
Say there are 12 contestants.
You each throw two dice.
Highest score wins the game. (wins the league!)
You have two options:
1. You roll one dice, then you roll the other dice.
2. You roll one dice and double that score.
Do you know which you should choose?
The saying is "Putting all your eggs in one basket".
In fantasy hockey, you want to finish 1st.
If there is no significant prize for finishing 2nd... then the next best place is to finish last (IMO) so you have the best chance at adding a significant piece.
Any EDM fan knows all about this!!!
I've gotta tip my hat to Pengwyn for showing me a different way to look at the ranks of the given players as I simply would have just placed a Drouin - Mac - Kadri - Jones - Schultz ranking order down.
10 team Cumulative Points Only - Keep 4
G (3), A (2), +/- (1), PPP (1), PIM (0.25/min), S (0.4), H (0.2), Bs (0.2), FoW (0.1), W (4), Sv (0.2), SO (4), GA (-1)
update inc.
You NEVER pass on potential superstars to fill out some 'all-in concept' on one team. Even IF Edmonton goes off and Schultz is one of the top d-men in the league you'd be passing on a potentiall superstar. I can't imagine a league where you couldn't trade your Mackinnon or Drouin for his Schultz + + +
I'm starting to get a feeling you are just disagreeing with me because of a chip on your shoulder (from previous threads).
Think about this...
The natural progression for #1 & #2 drafted forward picks is something like this:
1st year: 45pts
2nd year: 60pts
3rd year: 70pts
4th year: 80pts
Eberle/RNH/Hall... these guys are all entering years 3 or 4 or 5 of their careers.
They are all ready to have a potential 70 or 80pt season.
Likewise for Schultz. (Year 2 for him... but his age & experience make him more of a Year 3 or Year 4 player).
Ryan Whitney is going to be let go and Schultz will be mature enough to be PP1 next year.
So Schultz could rattle off 40-50pts next year.
We already saw what these guys did at OKC (AHL) this year.
I think Schultz burned out mid-way through the season (not a surprise for a former college star, they play 40 games/year).
By the end of the NHL season, Schultz was actually looking REALLY, REALLY GOOD.
11pts in 14games in April - to close the year.
A waiver wire forward in this league is going to be 50pts probably... so next year MacK & Drouin are fringe fantasy-value players.
The year after that, they'll be slightly better than fringe fantasy-value players.
The core of his squad is primed for a breakout in 2013-2014 or 2014-2015... so why roster a kid who won't hit stride until 2016, when he could have a defenseman that could hit stride NEXT year.
Everything about Schultz (EDM, his age, his roll) FITS this guy's team.
It's not always about getting the best overall player - sometimes you go with the player that makes a fantasy team bettter.
[FTR - if somebody is drafting a NEW team or doesn't have all these EDM players... yes, I'd probably say Drouin, then MacK, than Schultz. But this team structure & situation is different.]
