Jones is going to fit so well with the Avs.
Re: Duchene, Lando, and Jones being Avs fans growing up
Kinda hard to NOT be an Avs fan when they were kids...the team was a juggernaut with Sakic, Forsberg, Roy, Blake, Bourque, etc etc. Even if these kids weren't Avs fans (I think Jones was actually a Red Wings fan), it's easy to say you were a fan of a team with so much star talent.
Kinda like how it's so much fun to watch teams like the Pens and the Hawks today.
Yahoo 12 team Keep 7 League (keepers in bold)
Cats: G, A, PPP, SHP, +/-, PIM, SOG, Hits, W, GAA, SV%, SHO
Start 10F, 4D, 1 Util, 2G, 4 Bench
F: Malkin , Neal, Parise, Benn, MacKinnon, Pavelski, van Riemsdyk, Tarasenko, Yakupov, Hanzal, Scheifele, Palat, Zuccarello,
D: Giordano, Seabrook, Gudas, Gologoski, Ehrhoff, Bieksa (IR)
G: Rask, Lehtonen, Mason
Off the top of my head without giving it much thought, I think the top 5 will go like this:
Colorado: S. Jones
Florida: J. Drouin
Tampa: N. MacKinnon
Nashville: S. Barkov
Carolina: E. Lindholm
I also think that if the Flames pass on Monahan, the Oilers will be very happy to take him over the dmen still on the board. Monahan is the perfect 2nd line centre they need. Big, strong, smart, solid 2-way game.

League has been running continuously since 1997-98
The lottery was pretty anti-climactic. Would love to see some possibility of teams moving up or down at least a bit (not just the team's affected by the number one slot).
At any rate, good for the Avs. They desperately need Jones, and as mentioned, he's a perfect fit. Were it not for Florida's horrible luck with injuries, they would not have been as bad as they were, so I don't mind them missing out on that top pick.
Jones is the obvious choice here.
Johnson has to learn how to skate again before he becomes anything more than a second pairing defender. And even thats a stretch. I really think that ACL surgery messed up his career.
funny that they may be taking Jones when they're the team to have the last 1st overall "bust" d-man on their team
but they do need to draft him. Building from the net out is the only way to win championships

Wow, these forums man...make an honest statement and get accused of trolling. EJ is not a bust, hence why I had the word in quotation marks. I really like him too. But he was certainly not deserving of being a 1st overall pick and is not yet a high-impact player in the NHL. Nobody can argue that. Colorado didn't even draft the guy so it's not a slight against them. You build from the net out but it's obvious that highly picked d-men have underwhelmed in recent years.
Speaking of building from the net out, I don't see Varlamov giving them much long term stability in net. They should try Pickard or trade for another good prospect.
It's too late now, but maybe they should have traded for Steve Mason- lot's of problems but he's got elite upside.

I actually think that EJ will do a great job as the 1st pairing D partner for Jones eventually. Maybe EJ didn't turn out to be the dynamic two way powehouse he was projected to become, but he plays a very good defensive game. Pair him up with a dynamic skater like Jones and you'll have something special. 2nd D pairing will eventually be Siemens + one of Elliott or Barrie. Now that's a really good top4 imo.
Oh and now that Sacco is gone we won't see Hunwick playing 27 minutes a night.
