I'd roll with Rask and Backstrom.
Rask vs Montreal (Big Rivalry but Rask can steal a night)
Backstrom vs Phoenix (Phoenix has lost 6 in a row)
Niemi vs Anaheim (Anaheim has lost 3 in a row)
Last time I played Rask vs MON it was bad and last time I sat Niemi against the ducks he did well! I think Backstrom is a safe bet here but I hate crying when the guys I bench get shutouts!

currently Leading A and in PPP, but only Assists has a cushion. tied for last in hits (next person is 30-40 hits ahead), middle ground in ATOI, and 4th for +/-.

rookie at fantasy hockey.
Rask and Backstrom would be my choices but tonight I would roll with Backstrom and Niemi since both Phoenix and Anaheim are on losing streaks plus San Jose is 8-1-4 at home so if there is a time to pick Niemi, it's always at home where he has been stellar.
If there is one thing I've learned, you don't go by streaks. Same logic as playing roulette: while odds of getting 5 blacks in a row are low, each new spin is still 50/50. Sure, momentum carries over, but just because Phoenix and Anaheim are on losing streaks I wouldn't factor that in to consideration much.
bench Niemi .

Not quite 50/50 (47.37%) or the house would never win anything and the ~3% is significant. The reason I don't believe the parallel you drew between roulette and hockey to be true is we are dealing with humans playing a game that is almost never 50/50, not a ball spinning on a non bias wheel.
There is emotion, guys riding highs, home cooked meals, good night sleeps, fatigue, willingness to play for one another. Conversely there are guys who have played back to backs, coming off a lousy sleep, in a bed they didn't like, in a city they don't care much for, thousands of miles from loved ones.
There is definitely something to be said for streaks, something different for each one however, and what you can truly deduce from it is hard to tell. Tough to distinguish yes, meaningless, no.
