Was this a salary dump for LA to clear room for another player coming in?

Probably...well not so much clearing room 'expecting' a player to come in..but probably in case they are able to acquire someone at the deadline or something. Gagne is making $3.5M this year and he has been a healthy scratch since last Sunday.

Maybe it was to save him so he doesn't get injured in game and damage his trade value, or maybe it was due to play but either way it was evident that LA really didn't need him.

Mac, what Bondon said. I figure that after being in a league with me for so long that you would figure out Loch's sarcasm (which is eerily similar to mine) by now.

Not fully true. It's pretty well established that Nashville has an insane glut of young D, even beyond Ellis, Josi and Blum, there's Ekholm and a few other good ones at their minor league level too.

Hey now! I happen to resemble that remark!

Actually, truth be told that was a little of column A and a little of Column B. The main thrust was towards the D/G issues of the Flyers but there was a subtle undertone of 'Gagne is still alive?' to provide contrast and body to the palette. Some people listen to melodies, some people listen to lyrics. I like to reach a broad audience so I provide both... kind of like the Bieber of hockey forum humour...

...without the screaming girls (good old duct tape!)

You only have part of the story. He has contacted Eric Lindros about a possible return and is trying to undo the JVR trade.

Can't say I blame him... look at all the Stanley Cup's those players won together in Philly.

    It's like re-uniting the 1986 Oilers!
(in that you are putting back together a team that failed to win a cup).

*Edit* As a matter of curiousity is the correct form to call the team that didn't win the 1986 Stanley cup the '86 Oilers or the '85 Oilers? I mean the cup was in 1986 but the season started in 1985.... so? God these are the things that keep me up at nights... these and Mrs. Bomm of course.
