I hope he has a full recovery, and gets back to that elite level. It will be sad if he becomes Ryan Whitney.

It happens all the time with clean hits.

Problem is the cut is above the skate so higher in the calf, where tendon joins muscle. It is difficult to suture muscle because it pulls apart

Most guys who rupture their Achilles have it occur distally, a 2-4 inches above the heel bone where it is all tendon. You can feel your own tendon and where it becomes calf muscle.

The one good thing is in those ppl, the tendon is degenerated in crappy condition, while this is due to a clean laceration.

Know what, I'm going to retract my statement. If it was a guy like Duchene that did it I would have a problem with him getting a beat-down. But seriously....**** Cooke. You guys are right about that one lol

Usually for regular ppl 4-6 months to get back to regular activity, longer for return to sports (12 months).

Pro athletes they try to speed things up, but doesn't necessarily work. (normally 9-12 months for ACL, but AP came back sooner)

    http://www.thehockeynews.com/article...-standout.html

Zajac injured in August, predicted to be out 3 months.

Tried to return in December (5 months exactly), but struggled and didn't fully return until March (8 months)

exactly. wings were probably the last dynasty we're gonna see. maybe pens, doubt it though.

top team? you're banking too much on the young guys who arent that proven. silferberg, turris, zibby, cowen, lehner, bishop etc are supposed to make the sens a top team? they havent proved anything at the nhl level. not doubting the sens have potential, i like the core theyve built, but they are far from a top team even with jones/mackinnon.

BTW, Big Ev....I can't believe how quickly you saw the bright side in this. Good on you man.
This happened to Teemu Selanne in his 2nd season. That says it all.

I know....I must commit seppuku at once!

And I find it strange how quickly all the talking heads dismiss any possibility of either recklessness or intention. It's not like the video is conclusive. Only Matt Cooke knows the truth. Most of the reaction comes from a natural desire to not want to believe a player would do that to another player. And if you want to get conspiracy theorist about it, it would sure hurt the NHL's rep if people believed that a player would do something like that.

Or perhaps I'm incapable of being objective when I see the Sens' season looking to be over.

With the best goaltending depth in the NHL (current best goalie and current best prospect goale), Erik Karlsson (best d-man in the league), a legit #1 PPG centre, and good depth, you are a top team for sure, as you mature and age. They also have the best AHL team. Erik Karlsson alone makes you a contender in the league. There is no other young team on the rise with the balance they have at goal, D, and forward aside from St. Louis who is looking just okay this year.

(This is when they are all in the lineup.)

You add a Jones and MacKinnon to that, not to mention the potential of guys like Perry or whoever they look at in the trade market, you'e looking at a SC contender in the next 3 years or so.

I'm going to plead ignorance here, because I've never played any organized hockey, but did the skate need to come up? Is it a careless play? Is it a dirty play? I'm not trying to insinuate anything, it just looks kind of weird the way Cooke's leg comes up as they go into the boards. I'm not saying that he thought to himself "I'm going to slash the back of this guy's leg with my skate", but it just looks like it's an unnecessary movement.
