Galchenyuk/Brodeur for Larsson/Niemi

I hate to give up Galchy, think he's going to be a star, but my G and D need help, and I'm stacked w centers.

Question is -- is Niemi over Marty enough of an upgrade? How long til Larsson is useful (not in the near term, it seems ...)

he's offered Neuvirth instead of Niemi, but think i can push it to Antti (assuming I want do? pretty sure i do...)

I am also working on deals around Carter (plus) for Yandle .. with Bogo and Wiz on the shelf and Vis not playing for a while my D is hurting bigtime, and my Gs are pretty old...

I'd take Larsson/Niemi... just to get Niemi.
I really don't know how valuable Galchenyuk is going to be in fantasy hockey in the next 2-3 years.
I think a pool has to be pretty deep for him to have considerable value.

that's the first opinion of his that hasnt been raving ..
most think he's a superstar in the making and that i'd be crazy to trade him
i really dont know, other than that he's started well, and the path is fairly clear to be the main man in Mtl. But, how often do 18-YOs keep it up? Even if he reaches potential, likely it'll be years before 40+ pts..(?)

But same I think is true of Larsson ... how long before he starts putting up points, do you think, and what is his ceiling? Do you see him like a Hedman (slow to get going and maybe more D than O), or like a Pietro (monster all round) ...?

I think we have to look at this deal from two angles - 1) Help this year and 2) Impact on your keepers.

1. Help this year:
Clearly this deal helps you this year. Niemi is the hottest G right now and in a short season you go with the hot hand. I think this deal helps you out tremendously pursue a championship.

2. Impact on keepers:
The way I see it, losing Gally sucks as a keeper. But if you look at what will likely end up being your current set of keepers vs how this deal impacts them I think you come out ok.

Before trade

C: Sedin, E. Staal, Carter, Turris, Galychenyuk
W: Parise, Ryan, Vanek, Brown, Havlat
D: Enstrom, Kronwall, Wizzer (or Bogo)
G: Luongo

After trade:

C: Sedin, E. Staal, Carter, Turris
W: Parise, Ryan, Vanek, Brown, Havlat
D: Enstrom, Kronwall, Wizzer (or Bogo)
G: Luongo, Niemi

You're essentially only swapping out Gally for Niemi as keepers. This to me is a nice swap as a keeper as you're failrly deep at C and in a keep 14 I'd advise keeping two worthy G.

so you wouldnt see larsson as a keeper? (might have him over brown or havlat)

With your team I don't see Larssen as a better keeper than Brown or Havlat and the reason being I don't see him being fantasy relevant (ie. 40+ pts) for at least 2-3 more years. I see him progressing similar to Hedman. I'd rather keep two forwards that I know will hit a min of 50pts and have a chance to each surpass 60+ pts next season.

After you make this deal I'd start talking with a team that is rebuilding and ship them Larssen for a more proven 40pts Dman who's older and not really "keeper worthy". Someone like Pitkanen comes to mind but there are several others. This will help you obtain your goal of competiting this year and won't affect your keepers.
