Subban holdout might end in trade?

My feeling is that this gets resolved pretty much in the way Habs83 describes, by Subban accepting 2 year at about $3M and 3.5M.

I think the key to this is Subban swallowing a little pride/ego, taking into account the little leverage he has given lack of arbitration rights, and knowing that he must be watching the team and itching to get back on the ice. He has publicly stated that he wants to be a Hab for a long long time. He has just witnessed a purging of old regime and replacement with a management group that is CLEARLY highly competent at team-buildng. He sees his buddy Price and the young studs Galch and Gallagher, not to mention Beaulieu and Tinordi soon arriving, and then Collberg down the line, and knows that is going to be the start of what become the Cup contention years. Even now, he sees Markov meshing with Diaz, who's aways been so underrated, and can't like the fact the team is succeeding early on without him. Finally, as excitingas it would be to play in any other city,he knows he could become a legend playing in Mtl, and he loves that thought.

Add that all together, and given the HUGE payout he knows he'll be entitled to in 14/15,which is only 1.5 years away, and I bet he signs very soon.

The key will be Desharnais. In the Montreal thread linked above, it's estimated he could get "4-4.5 per for a 3-4." However, he's had a slow start to the season (points wise), and with Max Pac out, that could hurt him more. I could see him getting only $2.5 to $3 million. That frees up a bit more money for Subban.

Personally, I'd rather lose Desharnais than Subban. So sign Subban, and worry about DD in the summer, and lowball him instead.

YIKES. That much for Desharnais? Really? That's borderline Benn cash. I'd like to see him get $3 mil. 4.5 would be a little much imo.

RDS just announced that PK has signed with the Habs. 2-year contract, no details on the money yet.

I think (and hope) that Subban will sign this week for 2 years and under 3M$ per.
