it seems a bit early to panick and give up on a good young player, but on the other hand did he not get into a few fights with team mates last year? Perhaps they have soured on him.
so says the fat oaf apparently:

There's lots of speculation right now.
Best pieces I've read on the topic include:

I doubt they will trade him. It makes no sense for so many reasons. He is the "face of the franchise" as far as marketing efforts are concerned and he deserves a massive paycheck for so many reasons. Oh he's also only 23 and leads the team in TOI.

The only feasable trade that wouldn't leave me really pissed off is Subban+ for Yakupov. If he were to get traded, a young star better be coming back. A repeat of the Halak trade would end in a riot.

Good. I hope he gets traded.
But I don't think he will.

I said it from day one that Marc Bergevin needs to do one thing above all else and that is to stop taking other teams' garbage. So if Subban does have to be traded it better be for quality.

subban for yakupov would be sweet to watch on both sides...subban on the oilers with schultz on the ppl...yakupov and galchenyuk the best two forwards in their draft...damn!
No way he's traded for garbage, not by Bergevin, and even if he has a bout of insanity the guys surrounding him now are all excellent judges of talent, they all know what they'd be giving up in Subban.
I would only see this happen if an elite winger comes back, like a Corey Perry (trade and sign). The Oilers could be be a good fit too with their glut of wingers.
But my feeling is he won't be traded, cooler heads will prevail, especially on Subban's side, he'll get tired of not playing and will be a little more careful and listen to his agent, and they'll sign him to a 2 year deal at $4m per.
That said, as I posted last year, I would offer him long term at $5M+ per year, but based on all that's happened since, I get the distinct impression that Habs management is very concerned about his impact in the locker room - I have heard from people close to current NHL players that he is not at all liked in the room, apart from his buddy Price.

Montreal is in need of help on the wings and there is a need for d-men on the Island. How bout a trade based on Subban+ for Niederreiter+? I believe that Montreal needs Subban more than they need El Niņo, but if it gets to a point where re-signing him isn't an option, I don't think there's many other teams that could package something Montreal needs like this. Nino's young, got size, has the draft pedigree that wouldn't leave the Montreal fan-base mad. Snow would probably have to add a d-man in return, maybe a Donovan, Ness or maybe even de Haan. Just spit-balling here in lieu of word that Nino wants out...
