i would imagine skinner and green will be terrible deals for you going forward
For next year in my salary cap league I am going to need to shed somewhere between $12-15 million in salary (due to a bunch of raises). The question I have is who to move? Should I move the guys that get the most in a trade (I will be going for picks and prospects). Or should I just get rid of the weakest links for whatever I can get? Here is a list of the players with their 2013-2014 cap hits.
Alexander Ovechkin 9.538
Nicklas Backstrom 6.700
Henrik Sedin 6.100
Daniel Sedin 6.100
Max Pacioretty 4.500
Jamie Benn 5.500 (estimated)
Jordan Eberle 6.000
Alex Burrows 4.500
Jeff Skinner 5.725
John Carlson 3.967
Mike Green 6.083
Kevin Shattenkirk 4.500 (estimated)
Erik Karlsson 6.500
If I straight our trade them for picks and prospects (who don’t count against the cap), I could probably get away with only moving three guys. With trades, assuming I get a cheaper player back, I am looking at 4 or 5. Any thoughts on how you would approach it? Who would you like to keep and who would you like to trade.
Just so you know, there are very few willing trade partners so every trade will likely not be great even though I am offering a very good group of players.
Scoring is points plus some bonus for hits/PIM/shots/blocks

I would at least try to hold on to your studs (OV, Karlsson, Sedins) I start with Burrows and either Green or Carlson depending on who wins the PP job and go from there. It's not ideal but i would be willing to bet you could find some 40-50 guys out there pretty cheap until your prospects start to develop.

These are your four weakest players - I'd get what you can for them and then fill in with waiver wire players. If you have some points for PIM/Hits/BkS, then I'd roster your defense that way.
For example, in my Salary league, I have Chara and several bargain defensemen.
6m: Chara
3m: Visnovsky (actually not even in my current lineup - on AHL squad)
3m: I.White
2m: Corvo
<1m: Carkner, Engelland, MacDonald, Harrison, Peckham, Klein, Bickel
I use the majority of my cash flow on forwards.
There are lots of bargain-bin defense every year, especially in leagues counting PIM/Hits/BkS. Great bang for your buck.
Forwards generate the most offense, so I stock those positions for those categories, even at high price tags.
