Completely agree.
we are getting to that time of the year again and the who to start posts are beginning to pick up steam
i am going to suggest you play your best goalies every time they are playing
yes there are going to be times where that is going to burn you however goalies are also going to burn you with games that look like no brainers as starts as well
the majority of the time the best goalies are going to get you the best numbers if they didnt they wouldnt be your best goalies
last season the pens flyers and bruins were the highest scoring teams all averaging over 3 goals per game
henrik lundqvist won 79% of the games had a 1.91 gaa and a .937 sv% against all three of those teams
if you sat him playing a better matchup you were more likely to harm your team than help it
now not every goalie is lundqvist and they are not all likely to do better against the best teams than their averages overall
but even though even the best goalies have bad games from time to time they are the best goalies for a reason
now thats not to say that if a goalie is struggling you dont sit him or if another goalie is running a hot streak you dont play him
also as the season develops if one goalie plays better than expected and another worse you obviously change which one gets the starts and which one rides the pine
but at the beginning of the season you should be starting the guys you picked to be your top goalies
if you took a goalie in the 2nd round you shouldnt be benching him in favor of the guy you picked in the 9th round no matter what the matchup is
i am sure many will argue against this but i am a firm believer that you ride the hot goalies regardless of who the competion is
Completely agree.
