nice one. thank you.
A little project I've been working on... predicting PIM.
Most of the major PIM guys are fighters.
So I've logged some of their recent fight info from hockeyfights.com
Sometimes, it helps to see each team's fighters & then speculate if two will square off in any given match-up.
This year, with team's playing only in-conference, it may be easier to forecast which fights will happen & who may fight a lot.
I've noticed that goons that change locations really like to fight in their first few games that they play on their new team.
Here's a list of several goons that have switched teams:
West Coast Faces-in-new-Places
ANA: Brad Staubitz (takes over Parros' goon spot)
MIN: Zenon Konopka & Jake Dowell
East Coast Faces-in-new-Places
BUF: John Scott (if he makes the roster)
CAR: Kevin Westgarth (finally some grit added to the Canes - thanks to Carcillo for this one.)
FLA: George Parros (takes over Krys Barch goon spot)
MON: Brandon Prust (a much needed goon for the Habs)
NJ: Krys Barch
NYI: Matt Carkner (helps fill the goon spot left by Micheal Haley)
NYR: Micheal Haley (helps fill the goon spot left by Brandon Prust)
TB: BJ Crombeen (a much needed goon)
With all the new moves on the East... I expect to see a lot of fighting in that conference this year... and would hedge towards those goons.
That said, I think Zenon Konopka really wants to regain his PIM crown from Derek Dorsett... so expect Konopka (if he makes a regular roll with MIN) to rumble a LOT.
For anybody interested, I'm considering a little project called "The Daily Goon" where you predict two or three fights to happen based on the upcoming day schedule.
PM me if interested in participating/contributing.

Hope you enjoy.

This is great, thanks. This is a little eerie - at this very moment I've been trying to decide who to pick up as a depth, grit/goon D. I have Peckham but just heard he aggravated an injury so looking for a replacement. Why are a few guys highlighted in grey?
I've got a few things highlighted.
Grey - Defensemen. If I can get PIM from a D, I love it... but there aren't many. Engelland, Carkner, Brookbank. Peckham, if healthy. Stu Bickel (I think I forgot to highlight him), if he is top 6 for the Rangers. Clayton Stoner, MIN is also going to play everyday... he can drop the gloves too, but probably won't need to now that Konopka is there.
BOLD - Common fight opponents that are IN-conference (since those are the only games to be played this year).
Hey Pengwin, what do you think of Borowiecki's chances this year? If he makes the team, he's got the potential to be a nice sleeper PIM d-man.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.
I've never, ever, ever seen Brookbank owned in a single league.
So... go for it!
Funny after I said that I'm hesitating. Since it's just for my bench D, I'll wait for the first week and see what happens, especially with ice time. This is for the Dobber Adams league so would hate to start someone who ends up scratched at some point given the weekly lineups.
Thanks. This can make for great add in H2H leagues with PIMs.

...oh boy... this build is gonna be a while...
How about this for tonight - one stud vs one sleeper: Dorsett vs Gaustad? Especially using your logic of being on a new team, Gaustad might want to stir things up against a division rival.
Think the odds are pretty good that Rinaldo drops em today with some one from Pittsburgh? Thinking of throwing him in my lineup over the rook Tarasenko to get an early lead in PIM's?
I don't know.
I always feel like the NHL issues a slight note to teams not to be dropping the gloves during their PG-afternoon-game-slots.
Plus, Pittsburgh doesn't actually have that many fighters... maybe Engelland, and I don't see him as a guy that will drop them in game 1.
So, I'd say no on a Rinaldo fight.
My guess.
I see that you haven't listed anyone for Carolina. What about their newest addition Kevin Westgarth? They did give two draft picks for him so clearly they see a role for him and what else would that be than be an enforcer in their 4th line.

I'm only going to pick 3 fights per night... so I just picked the three I thought were most likely to happen. But good note on Westgarth - especially in the Eastern Conference, where there are several more goons.
EDIT: Just realized this isn't my "Daily Goon" thread. Ah, well... Westgarth should be added - and I shall. Thanks.
