Default Running gag of the WJHC....

Third time in a row that the Swiss power mower flies are beaten AFTER regulation. First by the Sweds and Fins in the SO, now by the Czechs in OT. This means no quarterfinals although they've never been beaten in regulation and looked good vs. the "big" nations. It's just sad. Ok, most of you probably don't give a sh...

Aren't they currently in third, one point ahead of Finland? If the Swedes beat the Fins in regulation than the Swiss advance? Correct me if I'm wrong.

EDIT: Soon after I say that they update the standings and yep, that's the situation. Had to be sure my math was right.

Swiss have had a great tournament, doing much better than I expected.

3-0 Sweden still in the first period. Looking good for Switzerland right now, not so much from Finnland, too bad the game isn't televised.

Here's a link to watch the game. You could even pick between Russian and Finish comment

5-3 Sweden after two periods of play, should be a great third period.

Lassinantti pulled after three goals, Lundstrom in net now for Sweden.

Watched all their games, and they finished 1st in PP, absolutely chorused every time, trying to thread every shot, and sharing the wealth, too! Dang they looked dressed for the show!

One happy homer here! Thanks Sweden! I guess the toutnament will be over for them after the next game though: I guess it will be Canada or Russia up next... But you never know as today has proved: there's always hope.

    Good for Switzerland.

Never would have guessed, that this Finland team would do so bad.

If Canada holds on, it will be Russia. Didn't the Swiss beat the Russians not too long ago in the WJHC?

I don't think anyone should be underestimating the Swiss at this point. Any team that can push so many games to OT, is a dangerous team.

Just checked and yes, they did beat the Russians in the 2010 quarter finals, and ended up finishing fourth in the tournament. Obviously being hosted by Russia it'll be even more difficult, but as you said arctic_rogue, their performance this tournament has been impressive so far.
