even if every active member on this site boycotted all these companies, not much would be accomplished. unfortunately us fans have very little power in this work stoppage because nothing we can do will affect its length and the true hockey fans will always come back once it's over.
just gotta keep hoping...

Effective immediately I've decided to put an end to my Sunday night routine of using my AMEX to pay for Pizza Hut delivery as I stay in watching films by Relativity Media followed by the occasional Lakers game while I lounge in my American Apparel boxers.
That'll teach those greedy bastards...
Yes, you are entitled to your opinion. Someone needs to point out your stupidity, sorry.
There are tons of local business already getting killed financially because of this pathetic lockout....bars, parking lots, restaurants etc. Suggesting that people start hurting other businesses, where people with families work...all to make a point is plain stupidity. Why drag more businesses/people into this mess?
What about the players? what is your bright idea on how to get back at them? Last I checked they are just as much part of this whole lockout mess. Going by your logic, I guess we should stop buying Reebok because Crosby is affiliated with them?

I hear you. Getting everyone one the same page would be a miracle. And it would have to be a far greater number than what we have here, no doubt. With that said, some people actually want to know, so why not throw it out there? Some have decided to have fun with it, which I appreciate because the topic SUCKS overall.

Here's the justification for boycotting other businesses:
1) The owners are the power players in the lockout.
Because:
Talk about owners scripting the lockout. It's owner imposed. Reference by Dobber, others, a few articles have been linked on this point, that the owners have deep pockets and aren't hurting. The dynamic is 'break the union', not break the owners. Lots of reasons...
2) The players have some power, but the fans have none.
On the second point, you'll see multiple posts on the impotence of the fans to do anything. There are hundreds of petitions online; almost all of them have ~5000 signatures. This indicates that the fans don't have the a) ability, b) will, c) belief to organize effectively.
3) Very little has been said about whether or not the fans will be back. This is noteworthy for many reasons, not least of which is that there has been so little substantive news and so much spin and yet very little has been definitively said re fans coming back. It is assumed that they will be back. Evidence from the last lockout supports this. From reading here (granted, a somewhat skewed forum), talk of 'diehard' fans giving up hockey or something along those lines is understood to be unrealistic.
4) The owners, by and large, don't make a significant part of their income from their respective NHL teams. They do, presumably, make a significant part of their income from the entirety of the businesses they own.
The idea then is to hit the owners where it hurts. Recognizing a) that the owners have the power, responding to the assumptions in b) and c) that the fans can't organize and will 'roll over and take it', and recognizing that the owners speak $$$ and may respond to mass boycotts of their companies.
This is distinct from 'hurting business' generally. It is highly unlikely that individuals on the ground, employed by these companies, will be affected. For that to happen, there has to be a demonstrable negative effect to the boycott. This would require massive organization, and likely long before owners decided to make cuts they would put pressure on the NHL to make a deal.
It is distinct from boycotting Reebok bc of its association with Crosby. Re a), the owners have the power. However, one could make the case that the players are also responsible, and should feel the fans' wrath. The problem with boycotting Reebok, is that it likely wouldn't hurt Crosby. It's highly unlikely that Crosby gets dumped by Reebok because of a boycott. It is, I suppose, possible.
Is this realistic? Certainly not. It needed to happen in October for it to have been effective. It needed to have gone viral, and been recognized as a legitimate and effective response by a huge number of hockey fans. Things like this didn't even get off the ground, and still aren't off the ground.
But the idea is to take the power of the masses, the consumers, and wield it en masse.
Cheers
I don't know... I don't think the lockout is solely the fault of the owners.
I wouldn't boycott these products.

Conversely, if you don't wish to ban these businesses and organizations, then perhaps you would prefer to take a course of action in which they might ban you. May I suggest some classic poop pranks? Staples Center would be a prime target. Sorry Kobe, but the Lakers are playing like poop. BAM! Poop in the key. Adam Sandler and Danny Devito would approve.
