Hahaha, that's awesome. My guess is he planned to have a longer conference, then in light of the new progress in negotiations decided to tone it down to a single statement. But yeah, probably didn't need a gathering of people for it.

The subject does have me thinking because players have agents who negotiate their contracts. I know the agents have connection and spend a ton of time doing research about market value, etc, but I just wonder if some players would be better off without an agent.

We see it here... Bettman and Fehr are guys who represent the people who really matter. But they add a layer of complexity to the process. Remove the layers and you have progress.

I don't believe any of this optimism is justifiable. So they finally had a meeting that lasted all day and it didn't end with storming out or name-calling. Big deal.

They haven't even addressed anything specific yet.
And eventually, Fehr & Bettman have to get involved again.

At the end of the day, this could only be taken as good news and optimism.

Well the PA submitted a proposal to the owners today. The owners met internally again to go over the proposal and have just gathered with the players again to respond to their proposal.

Will probably find out soon whether we can truly have optimism about what has been occurring lately. My guess is that it goes one of two ways:

They continue this same process trying to reach a deal.

Or

The owners don't respond favorably and shit hits the fan for awhile again.

oh, and maybe my opinion is soiled (because I truly think he's awful on television) but I think Kypreos was (at the very least) exaggerating when he tweeted about coaches calling players and telling them to come home.

First of all, coaches would know next to nothing about the real state of negotiations.
Secondly, it is a lockout. Team personnel are not allowed to be contacting the players unless the owners told them it was ok. And I doubt that was the case.

False. The coaches got word from their governors. The coaches can and do talk to players all the time.
