As tempting as Yakupov/Granlund is right now, both have still yet to play a single NHL game. Ovechkin for me as well.

You simply don't move an all-star without receiving something tangible in return.
I'm a huge fan of Yakupov and Granlund, but you need at least something proven coming back.

What a great offer though!
Ovy has been down for the last couple years (if 85 the year before last can be considered down). Two guys with all the hype in the world look intriguing here.
Still, gotta go with the known commodity.
I do fear that this thread will be revisited 3 years from now when Yakupov and Granlund are top 6 in scoring and Ovechkin hasn't cracked 70 again.
Of course, at that time Granlund could also be back in Finland suffering from concussion-related headaches, and Yak could be getting outscored by again-studly Ovy by 30 each season.

I lean towards what dyz and stone are saying. The value is close, but without a proven NHL scorer added I don't know if I would do the trade. Those are two legit high-end prospects and personally I would consider it, but I like taking risks so I'm not sure I would give you that advice. I would still be looking for a proven NHL scorer added to the deal.

I would hold on to Ovechkin just because he's the better player in the deal.
Ovechkin...lol. I feel like actively shopping Ovechkin and cutting bait on him is a horrible move because his value can only really go up.
I don't even see how thats close. You're trying to win a league, not build the best looking binder of prospects.
Marty St Louis, a #2 goalie and those 2 prospects would be an offer I could wrap my head around, but 2 prospects for a top 5 name? Hah!

Thanks for the input. I will keep Ovechkin.
I'm just getting to this thread (because new info is slow)... but it's a bit curious that nobody asked about the size of the league & keepers.
I value Ovechkin as an 85pt player.
Let's say we are talking about a league where waiver-wire forwards (or, if a limited keeper, re-draftable forwards) are available at the 55pt level.
That makes Ovechkin a +30pt player.
Let's add a 2nd player, the waiver wire forward (WWF) = +0pt player.
In order for the return to be even, the relative difference of the two guys coming back should be +30pts or more.
So... if Yakupov & Granlund are both deemed to be consistent 70pt players (+15 & +15) then it's a pretty even trade.
In small leagues, maybe 60F are kept and the WWF might be a 60pt player. In that sort of pool, Ovechkin is the better side.
In deeper leagues, maybe 180F are kept and maybe the best WWF might be a 40pt player. In that sort of pool, Yakupov & Granlund may be the better return.
I don't think the replies are necessarily wrong, because most NOOBs that come to DobberHockey are operating teams in "small" pools.
As an assumption, I think Ovechkin is... likely... the better side.
That said, in a deep, deep league there can be a case where Yak & Granlund represent the better side of the deal. My 2 cents.
