Default Need help picking 5 keepers

    10 team H2H
    We keep 5
    Cats are:
Skaters: G A +/- PIM ATOI SOG PPP
    Goalies: W GAA SV%

    Possible keepers:
Skaters: Malkin PKane Getzlaf Kopitar Kessel RNH Letang Karlsson Byfuglien
    Goalies: Fleury Rask

I'm leaning towards Malkin, Fleury, and I can't make up my mind after that. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'd keep Rask over Fleury. Vokoun will take more starts from Fleury than Johnson did, and Rask will probably post better GAA and save percentage numbers.

So with that in mind, I'd keep: Rask, Malkin, Getzlaf, Kane and a defenceman (I'd lean toward Buffy here, since he should get more PIMs and shots than the other two).

Tough choices though. I can see the problem. I'd be flip-flopping a lot with that team.

Writer of the weekly Top 10 column.

    League champ in 2013, 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022.

Top 8 forwards, 5 dmen and 2 goalies count.

We keep 15 players (any position) plus two rookies.

Forwards: Panarin, Ovechkin, Kopitar, Stamkos, Tuch, Rust, Marchessault, Pavelski, Miller, Bertuzzi, Stone, Kakko, Brown, Stankoven, Kovalenko
Defence: Hedman, Fox, Matheson, Thrun, Jiricek
Goalies: Kochetkov, Talbot, Vasilevskiy, Campbell, Schmid

Vokoun doesnt worry me about taking starts from Fleury. Hes like 39 and Fleury is an elite goalie. My keepers are Fleury, malkin, p kane, getzlaf, letang. I would have picked Buyfuglien if hits was a category and it would have been easy choice with him.

I'd keep Malkin, Kopitar, Kessel, Karlsson and Rask.

Honestly, I don't think you could go wrong either way, that's a really nice team you have there. I would totally understand keeping RNH or Getzlaf over Kopitar, but I'm pretty certain that Malkin, Kessel, Karlsson and Rask are your other four.

    Tough one for sure....

    Malkin
    Rask
    RNH
    PKane

Flip a coin between Karlsson and Letang...I probably take Karlsson due to less risk for injury, Letang seems to be banged up quite a bit

My God, what a tough decision.

    1) Malkin. A no brainer for sure.

    2) Rask. He will dominate this year without Thomas on a Cup contending Bruins team.

    3) Karlsson. He's the real deal and is in a good place right now and has a coach that knows how to use him.

    4) Letang. Just think about that PP when Crosby and Malkin are out there. Letang is also a beast in PiM and will help in every category.

    5) Kessel or Kopitar. Coin toss for me. If pressed, I would go with the goal scoring of Kessel over Kopitar, otherwise, their numbers are very, very close.

You will likely be able to redraft Fleury. Talk up the reason you are not protecting Fleury was the addition of Vokoun and then try like hell to redraft him! The reality is that the presence of Vokoun may actually spur Fleury to play better.

Good luck with whatever your decision is.

    1) Malkin. Duh.
    2) Rask. Solid team, all of the key cogs are still there, and only Chara can be considered aging.
    3) Karlsson. Great coaching, young studs coming up, future team looks like a great place for continued success.
    4) Byfuglien. He may be a slight health risk, but you cannot deny the monstrous peripheral numbers he puts up in your league. With Karlsson and Big Buff it is like having two extra forwards.
    5) Kopitar. I like him, also another team with the key cogs all locked up for a long time, and fairly young.

I'm going to switch my picks and agree with Russ here.

For the last keeper, I'd protect Kessel over Kopitar.

Call me crazy but you have 3 of the top 5 d in my eyes (chara + weber). I'd protect the best players at their position. Malkin, Rask, and the 3 d. Centers are deep and while wings arent quite as deep I don't believe Kessel will be in for a repeat this year.

Getzlaf doesn't shoot, +/- is questionable and even though he says he's adjusted to fatherhood who knows (I have getzlaf)

Kane is PIM lite and who knows which P Kane will show up

Kessel see above and previous mention.

Kopitar position of depth and easiest to replace.

Malkin is a no-brainer here of course.

Rask over Fleury as he should post similar Ws and better peripherals.

I like the idea of keeping Kessel because RW is so shallow this year and he is a consistent top scorer. He also will have a high ATOI (interesting stat to count btw).

While I normally wouldn't stockpile D-men, I would lean towards making Karlsson and Letang your other 2 keepers. Since most people will only keep 1 d-man if they keep any at all, the focus for a lot of GMs will be drafting D-men early. This allows you to focus on forwards that may fall a little further than they should.
    Without me, it's only "aweso".

im with tybiggs on this one.
    malkin
    rask
    byfuglien
    karlsson
    letang
there are some tough drops but every manager will be dropping guys they hope to get back in the first few picks so you should get at least one of your drops back in the draft. id think you got a better chance at a center.

According to OP's sig, there's only F-designations so Kessel doesn't get any winger extra points.

    I'd be keeping...

    Skaters: Malkin Kopitar Letang Karlsson
    Goalies: Rask

... those guys. Tough choice between Flower and Rask but I'd be going with Rask. Kopi is great player to own and I'd much rather have him over Byfuglien.

Those would be mine. Karlsson over Letang because he has slightly more SOG and ATOI.
Malkin is obvious. Kopitar is consistant and has another gear yet.
RNH is a home run swing but all the offense in edmonton will run through him.
Rask will have comparable wins to Fleury and will probably start more games since Vokuon is an incredible #2 in Pittsburgh. The top 5 +/- guys in the NHL last season were all from Boston and this benefits Rask is very big ways. I know fleury is more proven but his GAA & SV% aren't over the moon.

Man that's a pretty stacked group.

How many goalies will be re-entering the draft? If there will be several quality goalies I might be tempted to grab them in the draft and just keep skaters.

Malkin is a must keep, obviously. In this format I think you have to keep Karlsson and Byfuglien. I'd want to keep Letang too, but it's so hard when you have so many forwards to choose from as well.

    I'd probably go:

Malkin, Karlsson, Byfuglien, Getzlaf, Rask if no good goalies left... if there are I might be tempted to take Letang or RNH over Rask.
