    Default Erik Johnson

    Hey all,
So, as with a couple of posts I have put, I am looking to add some strength to my defensive core, as you can see, they are hurting.

I have an offer out to land Edler for Brown, but as I wait, I was approached by a GM who is willing to give me Erik Johnson for my 1st rounder (14th of 14)

He would add 2.2m to my payroll, which does hurt a bit as there are some very good forwards in the auction this year, I would like to bid on, but I'm wondering if you think it is worth it.

At 14th, I was hoping to be able to land someone (in order) like: Voynov, Elliot, Gardiner, Faulk, Larsen but I would take a chance and wait.

Johnson on the other hand hasn't been a strong point getting, and his plus minus has never been good, do I take my chances or take Johnson?

    Thanks

    No, I'd pass on EJ.
Colorado is eventually going to give Stefan Elliott the opportunity to be main point on their PP. EJ may still be there, but he's not the slickest of puck movers.

If you think you have a good chance at Elliott/Faulk/Voynov, I'd wait for those guys.

Looking at your defense, I'd be inclined to grab both Edler for Brown (if that deal is accepted) AND EJ for the 14th pick. I prefer EJ over all those players you were targetting. I have a feeling he will have a good year. It is only his 5th season upcoming, and the injury and trade slowed his development a bit. I fully expect him to break out this coming season.

Adding Edler and EJ, along with Burns and Goligoski, really solidifies your defense.

I like the younger guys more than EJ.. the younger guys will be placed in more offensive roles than EJ down the line.

That being said I do like EJ but he is a guy to gamble if a cheap offer comes up for him IMO.

I'm very surprised people value Voynov, Elliott, Gardiner, Faulk, and Larsen more than EJ.

Young dmen are so hard to predict and I'd venture a guess that EJ outproduces ALL of them this upcoming season, and likely for the next two seasons at least.

Nature, you can use another reliable defenseman. I would try to trade for Edler and either deal the pick for E.Johnson or keep it and take Faulk.
