Stars season is basically on Fiddler's stick. And he's stoned.

So who else besides Cole is on the block? We shall see. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if Garbutt gets dealt. He's been in the doghouse a bit even though he's avoided the healthy scratches. He's dug himself a bit of a hole with Ruff and Nill with the dumb penalties and suspensions. They love his style but are getting frustrated with the boneheaded aspects. I would not be surprised either if one of Oleksiak or Jokipakka maybe gets dealt if the proper return comes along.

Anyway you look at it the Stars are now 12th in the West and at best 7 points out of the final wildcard pending the outcome of Kings/Ducks with just 20 games left. They are now sellers one would expect.

Might have to add Kari's name to that list....

Stars coach Lindy Ruff: "The goaltending doesn’t match the effort of the team right now. You need goaltending. It’s as simple as that."
Longest of long shots with his contract. Still that right there is a entree know as "goalie under bus"....

Lindy's frustration with the goaltending is out in the open now. No punches pulled. From Heika....

“There’s nights that he has to steal games, there’s nights where he has to out-perform the other guy,” Ruff said. “Our goaltending has been tough on our team, and I think that’s where the frustration is.”
Asked what he expects from Lehtonen and back-up Jhonas Enroth going forward, Ruff said: “One of them’s gotta win us a game. Really. It’s as simple as that. One of them has to step up and win us a game. It doesn’t matter who’s going to play. Somebody’s gonna win, they’re gonna win. It’s really just as simple as that. We need a performance.”

    Preach on Ruff!!!

Their defense is shitty... nobody's denying that, but even taking that into account, Lehtonen has been horrendous this year.

The Stars have waived David Schlemko which means Patrik Nemeth is close to returning. Pretty impressive recovery for Nemeth coming back in February after initially looking like he was done for this season.

Now what happens on the trade front?

    Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Erik Cole has partial NTC, most teams on his list are in East. But isn't proving to be an issue so far as Dallas fielding lots of calls...

    Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Also think that if a team not on his list presented good trade offer to Stars Cole could be open to it depending who it is

    Pierre LeBrun @Real_ESPNLeBrun
Re: Erik Cole list, when I said most teams on his list are in the East, obviously meant his ''yes'' list

No surprise there is lots of interest here. Boston? Washington? Don't see a return to Montreal, but who knows. How much return a 36 year-old rental gets is the curious part. Not much doubt that tomorrow will be Cole's last with the Stars barring a deal tonight or tomorrow morning.

NWO - would you drop Lehtonen for Mason if you were me?

Any chance Ruff's latest dig at Lehtonen wakes him up and he turns his game around? Will he continue to get the lion's share of the starts?

He responded the last time Ruff called him with a few good games. I think Ruff goes with whoever has the hot hand and it may shake out as a 50/50 timeshare over these final 20 games. The Stars still want to get some more eyeball time on Enroth so I'll guess Kari gets 12 of the final 20, Enroth gets the rest.

As far as Mason over Lehtonen, I think it's a push, so I would stay with Lehtonen and watch him for a few more games. Your setup you can still play a forward over him while you see how he responds and grab Mason if you don't like what you see or if Enroth looks like he may get a run.

If your afraid Mason will be snagged go for it. Lehtonen may or may not respond again to being called out. I take that back, he's going to respond, whether or not it's a positive response is entirely debatable. The Stars won't mail it in, but as you've seen they are entirely unpredictable.
