Especially with a two week matchup and close categories. Wouldn't it suck if the OP lost because he benched a good start? I would rather lose taking a chance than play it safe. That's why we play the game.

That being said, if anyone can slow down the Pens, Rinne is one of those goalies.

    Thanks for the response.

I still honestly think this is the riskiest start I've made in a while, and when in a playoff matchup I like being extra careful on the decisions I make. The fact that he got pulled last game only adds to this. I honestly think I have some better matchups to make later in the week, and the chances at getting a Win here are even harder than getting good GAA/SV% so I think there's still a considerable amount of risk to weigh.

Rinne brought me this far, and I like Luongo last night, I hope he bounces back well for me. Might as well roll the dice.
I'll be watching this game closely to see how things play out.

Good luck to all the Rinne owners out there on this one!

I'm like you too. I'm super careful with my starts. However, in your case there is more upside to risk involved and that is enough to make me take the risk. When the benefits outweigh the cons, you gotta take the chance.

Rinne carrying my team to a presidents trophy, then a first round upset. I also named this team San Jose Sharks

Thank you for this thread. Scratched Rinne with 4 minutes until roster lock.

Good call man. I went with goalie expert Justin Goldman and the post that responded directly to me, despite my skepticism. On the bright side I'm still winning my matchup for now.

^ You should really think about adding in byes to the top teams. How many teams do you have in your league and how many make the playoffs?
I have 10 teams, 6 make the playoffs, top two get byes. The top two teams have a significant advantage come post season in earning their money back in my league which is definitely enough to match the home-ice factor in the real life NHL.

I was thinking earlier about whether if I'd prefer to be in a roto league but it's so anti-climatic. H2H is great if you're in a league with friends because every week has it's own significance and bragging rights.
If yahoo put in a ROTO / H2H hybrid, I'd give it a try. Where the regular season is roto to determine playoff seeds, then there's an actual playoffs in H2H mode.

The fact that the playoffs are at the end of the regular season kind of sucks when you're a goalie dependent team in H2H because your big time starters get worn out and either play worse or rest on the bench to the backup in your most significant games of the year. This has been the case in my keeper for the first two years - and once again in the case of Rinne here - but that's the reality we're stuck with as armchair fantasy GMs.

Thanks again for all the replies. I had Rinne to start to the whole day, then just got a gut feeling and put him on my bench 1 minute before the rosters locked. For once, benching a goalie has worked in my favor. Looks like Ward is my go-to guy for the finals in my league.

I sure hope Rinne turns it around soon though.

Glad it worked out for you last night, despite *ahem* some of the advice given on here. In the end, you should trust your gut. If it works, great; if it doesn't, well at least you don't have any regrets.

Good luck the rest of the matchup.
