Default Start Rinne tonight against Pens?

Anyone starting him tonight? (That is, if he is playing, I haven't seen a confirmation that he's starting yet)

I'm guessing it'd be a good idea to bench him against the red hot pens? He usually bounces back after a bad game, but that hasn't been the case lately. I don't know what to do, he screwed up my GAA and SV% pretty bad last game, but Ward made up for it a bit last night. I'm barely winning GAA and losing on SV%.

I have the same dilemma and I'm scratching him. The Pens haven't let up since Crosby returned and I don't think Radulov will help with playing D.

I believe the Preds play Saturday and Sunday so by sitting him tonight you're likely leaving yourself with only one more Rinne start for the week. The Hurricanes also play a double header Friday/Saturday vs Cbj and Detroit so that should leave only one more start for Ward.

So it really comes down to who your opponent has.

I have both Elliott and Rinne on my roster. Actually thinking of sitting both as we only count W, OTL, and SO.
I've also played a few more games over my limit currently, so i can afford to sit a couple games.

IM starting him but I also have Malkin, Neal and Letang so I figure if Rinne gets smoked I will get lots of points from my Pens. Also I dont want to bench Rinne and then have him post a shutout or low GAA and I also get nothing from my Pens.

In the end I almost always start my stud goalies (like Rinne) as I find it too hard to be guessing which games he will or will not play well.

Thanks for the replies. Our playoff matchup is 2 weeks long, so I have next week as well. But like wendelclark17 said, I'd hate to sit him and him finally have one of his amazing games again. The team I'm up against has Price and Elliott.

I also have Crosby and Neal, so if Rinne does get lit up, I should get something from those two.

As of now, my opponent's GAA and SV% is at 3.096 and .9032 from Price last night, I'm at 2.983 and .8947 from Rinne and Ward so far this week.

With a two week schedule and the back to backs that Nashville and Carolina have this week, Rinne is a must play tonight for me.

Rinne hasnt been himself recently...he got pulled over the weekend.

    I would sit him.

something tells me he wont make it into the 3rd period tonight.

Pens will be all over the Preds.

Pens smoked some of the best teams in the league last week in Boston,New Jersey,Rangers.Nashville will be no different.

I personally would bench Rinne. Pens are arguably the hottest team right now. You have more to lose than to gain with starting Rinne.

If you are behind in stats and have nothing to lose, go ahead and start him. However if you are ahead, there is too much risk involved to risk ruining your stats.

I would rather bench a good start than start an awful game.

I am the opposite. You draft your studs for a reason, so I'm not going to suddenly sit him because I'm afraid of a bad start, regardless of the matchup.

Especially with a two week matchup and close categories. Wouldn't it suck if the OP lost because he benched a good start? I would rather lose taking a chance than play it safe. That's why we play the game.

That being said, if anyone can slow down the Pens, Rinne is one of those goalies.

My matchup is super close right now overall, losing 7-8-1. The goalie stats are where I'm ahead but not by much.

Other guy has Thomas and Elliot playing tonight. If Rinne shits the bed I'll lose 3 points. But on the other hand if Thomas and Elliot play well and I sit Rinne, I'm screwed anyhow. My other goalies are Bishop and Anderson.

So screw it, go big or go home, I'll be starting Rinne lol

    Default A true head scratcher

To those considering starting him: I would most likely not start him if your stats are looking good so far.
But chances are you've already got pretty crappy stats if you started him the other night.

I'm really thinking about starting Rinne myself. My opponent and I both have mediocre and close stats so far:

    I have: 1W, 3.35 GAA, .909 SV%, 0 SO
    Against: 2W, 3.13 GAA, 905 SV%, 0 SO

My goalies are Rinne, Luongo, Dubnyk
His goalies are: Lundqvist, Elliot, Niemi

    His starts tonight are:
Elliot @ LA / Niemi Vs. BOS
which goalie guild's SGRI has both goalies ranked slightly below Rinne for the night.

I'm having a real hard time deciding on this one.
    Thoughts?

In your case I might be okay starting him because as you said, if Elliot and Thomas play well you are screwed anyway. I think it is wise in your case to start Rinne.

Honestly, you have nothing to lose by starting Rinne. Worst case you lose one category. If it goes well, you gain 2 categories. There is more upside to starting than to sitting Rinne. I still think Rinne is a huge risk but in your case its a risk worth taking.

Given the lack of games he has played against the Pens the small sample size of his stats VS them is by and large irrelevant. If you are behind in goalie stats start him as you don't really have much to lose. I'd be surprised if the Pens score more than 3 goals against him.
