Going to be interesting to see if he'll take over the backup goalie job immediately or if they'll put him in the minors for a season. Depends on what they'll do with Bobrovsky but I have no doubt that Hovinen is NHL-ready right now.

Niko Hovinen has been claimed off waivers by the Edmonton Oilers. With Nikolai Khabibulin (hip) sidelined, the Oilers could stand to upgrade their goaltending depth. All the same, Hovinen doesn't have any fantasy value and at best will warm the bench in the short-term. Hovinen had a 3.14 GAA and .889 save percentage in 16 games with the ECHL Trenton Titans.
He's basically an AHL fill while they have Yann Danis backing up Dubnyk.

Weird move by the Oilers. I thought Flyers put Hovinen on contract termination waivers and he was set to return to Europe.
Mark this one as a miss for me. Hovinen has the size and talent to be a good goalie in NHL but don't know what his issues this year have been. He's had some hip issues so maybe it's caused the difficulties he's had this year. Or it's just the Flyers' magic touch on goalies.
