Dud of the night should be the referee's in NJ/PIT game for breaking a rule, and also Mike Green for being injured again.
A lot of good and terrible displays tonight so let’s not waste any time. Here is a look at the best and the worst fantasy performances from last night’s action.
Bizarre Stat of the Night
Nicklas Lidstrom led the Wings in hits against the Leafs with five. He has had no more then two in any other game this season.
STUDS
Danny ‘Wheel of’ Briere
Arguably the best single fantasy performance of the season thus far. Briere had all three goals in the Flyers 3-2 victory over the Senators and went six for nine in the face-off circle, while adding seven shots on goal. He also got into the act physically with a fight and finished off with seven penalty minutes.
Curtis Sanford and Son
Sanford stopped all 31 shots he faced in a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Kings. For the Blue Jackets to win a game when scoring just one goal is nothing short of miraculous. It was their first shutout of the season and the second straight impressive performance from Sanford. He made 37 saves in a 2-1 loss to San Jose on Thursday.
Super Stars
Several Stars turned in great performances on Saturday. Jamie Benn and Mike Ribeiro had two goals each, Loui Eriksson had three assists, Brenden Morrow had seven shots, four hits and two blocks, and goalie Richard Bachman stopped 24 of 25 shots in the 4-1 win. Not to mention Trevor Daley, Eriksson, Morrow and Adam Pardy all finished plus-3.
Honourable Mention
Jhonas ‘David Lee’ Enroth
That’s back to back Saturday nights with great efforts from Enroth that led to losses. Made 39 saves in a 2-1 loss this time around against the suddenly stuck in the Eastern Conference Jets.
Martin Brodeur
Nice bounce back game for Brodeur as he stopped 41 of 42 shots.
Pavel Datsyuk
Two assists and a 13 of 15 face-off night for the Datsyukian one.
Jay Harrison
The only Hurricane who showed up had two goals, six shots, and four blocks.
Predators
Nice game all around for Nashville with plenty of strong performances. Patric Hornqvist potted two goals, Mike Fisher and Martin Erat combined for five assists, and Ryan Ellis had a two point night.
Shark Attack
Three points each for Dan Boyle and Patrick Marleau.
Brian Elliott
Although he only had to make 15 saves, it’s still a shutout.
Milestones
Shane Doan posted his first career hat-trick and Jarome Iginla netted goal number 500.
DUDS
Deserted Island
The Islanders were all kinds of bad on Saturday night in a 5-1 loss to Phoenix. They only had one skater, Matt Martin who was later seen purchasing a lottery ticket, that didn’t finish as a minus for the night. Only John Tavares had more than three shots, and Evgeni Nabokov gave up five goals on 25 shots.
Capital Losses
Alexander Ovechkin was a minus-3 with no points in a loss to the Sharks. He also had a clumsy attempt to stand up for team-mate Alexander Semin that looked more like a Jwoww/Sammi fight from season three of Jersey Shore.
Hurricanes Penalty Kill
Carolina gave up four power play goals to the Predators in five opportunities which pretty much sunk any hopes of a victory.
Dishonourable Mention
Shawn Horcoff
Rough outing for the Oilers center as he managed to win just five of 15 face-offs and was on the ice for three of the Stars four goals.
Jimmy Howard
He gets a bit of a pass because one of the goals he gave up was on a penalty shot to Phil Kessel, but four goals on eighteen shots is still ugly.
Power Failure
The Avalanche, Bruins, Blue Jackets, and Kings went a combined 0-23 on the power play.
Dud of the night should be the referee's in NJ/PIT game for breaking a rule, and also Mike Green for being injured again.
