Default Henrik #1, Howard #2 or Rask?

Play in a 12-man, weekly H2H, single year league, no keepers.
    Stats: G, A, +/-, PIMs, PPP, SOG, FOW, HITS, W, GAA SV%

    My two goalies:
    Lundqvist (2nd round pick)
    J Howard (8th round pick)

    FA goalies available:
    M Neuvirth
    T Rask
    S Mason
    J Theodore

With Lundqvist as my #1, is it worth picking any of those up and trading Howard for either:
    LW/RW - Semin
    LW/RW - Doan

    My roster:
    C - E Staal
    C/RW - J Carter
    LW - J Benn
    LW/C - P Sharp
    RW - Hemsky
RW - Clutterbuck (use slot for wkly waiver wire moves)
    D - Shattenkirk
    D - Goligoski
    D - Yandle
    B/C - Grabovski
    B/LW - B Morrow
    B/LW - V Leino
    B/LW - E Kane
B/RW - M Samuelsson (will drop once Havlat goes off IR)
    IR - Havlat

In a 12 team league, good goaltending will be at a premium before the season is up. I would keep the 2 goalies you have and pick up Rask. In the 12 team league I am playing in, I have Brodeur, Price Rask and Schneider. Rask and Schneider are getting more starts this year and will give me the equivalent of another quality starter between the 2 of them. For you, Getting rid of Howard and leaving yourself with only King Henrik and Rask will leave you very thin at that position. If you have a minimum games requirement to fill, it may be difficult with just Henrik and Rask.

Good point about minimum games if I only had Henrik + Rask....makes sense that that situation would leave me super thin.

I actually pulled the trigger and snagged Mason off waivers last night after he was dumped by one of my friends. My thought - if I can trade Howard for Semin or Doan, I'd do it and take the hit on the goalie front with the assumption that Mason will win less than the projected 33 wins (looks like he's off to a bad start...). But still a good 2nd goalie behind Henrik. And the fact that 3 goalie stats vs. 5 skater stats would mean that the ROI on a skater like Semin or Doan is much higher than with Howard.

    Thoughts?

That looks a little better with Mason as #3. since you only have 3 goalie stats to worry about, keeping 4 goalies may be a little much. I, however am thinking that Rask will put up numbers like he did the year before last and as soon as Old Man Thomas tweaks his groin, I'll be sitting with the starting goalie on the Stanley Cup Champs. And even if he doesn't, Rask gets 30-35 starts and will have better numbers than Mason.
BUT, Always remember one thing. FREE advice is worth exactly what you pay for it. LOL. Good luck

When you have one elite goalie and one goalie who isn't elite but gets a lot of wins, that's a great combination. I wouldn't drop Howard, your goalies are going to be fine.

I'd have 4 goalies if I had a larger roster (inc. Rask)....how many guys on your roster? I think 2 is enough for me, so I'll dangle Howard so some gold and if anything, keep him and look to trade Mason for something less.

I definitely agree with that statement. I had Henrik last year too, and had Lehtonen for the /2 part of year, then dumped him for Niemi when he got hot....and it worked great...I got 2nd place.

Like I said, I'll dangle Howard or Mason for trade bait, and see what I can get. I can always look to pick up Rask after all the dust settles...and Timmy starts showing signs of rust 15-20 games into season.
