Default The beginning of the LA controversy

I got to say, I'm surprised I'm not hearing it more, but I'm reading a lot about LA's philosophy on goaltending this season. Bernier says he feels like the last half of the season. He feels he's calmed down after being frustrated by not getting starts and is fine with it.

Their coach is talking about playing the hot hand more. He had a specific plan last season through December. This year is going to be an organic take and allow whoever is the hotter hand to play.

So is this the year Bernier creates the major controversy, even steals the starting gig by the trade deadline and we see a change in LA or is this going to be more like last year where we see Quick steal the jobs from the beginning and never let Bernier take it?

I just drafted Bernier in a dynasty as a 3rd goalie. Everyting I have seen shows he is is capable of being #1. I put a 40% probability of him hitting 40 starts with potential for more either as the #1 in LA or somewhere else by the end of the season.

I don't see him stealing the # 1 job, as Quick is quite the capable goalie himself.

Rather, I see more and more teams getting 2 goalies that will split duties.

The era of stealing jobs is coming to a close in my opinion.

So not really any controversy in LA, unless Quick really shits the bed, but I seriously doubt that

After 2 or 3 years of waiting for Bernier to steal the job from Quick, I think a lot of people have given up on him. Quick is a legit goalie and a hard worker. I don't think Bernier will steal the job from him. That said, I think there is a good chance he or Quick is traded when Bernier's contract is up.

I do not like the coaching philosophy of riding the hot hand to an extent. Coaches ask their players to buy into their system, but at some point the coach has to buy into their players. This in turn, allows the team to play more confident and allows trust to build.

    See Fleury, Marc-Andre last season.
