    Default Safest Goalie?

In a one year league I pick tenth and eleventh. I will pick the best forward available and a goalie.

I'm think I should have a lot available at the ten spot, maybe Luongo is gone, but for this exercise let's assume I can take any goalie. Last year at the 8 & 12 spot I took Brodeur and Luongo assuming I would win every goalie cat the whole season... Marty let me down on that one!

It's H-2-H. I'm looking for W, S, SO and we subtract for GA and Losses.

What order would you place the to three in? Again, safest, not potential to win 40 games.

In order of preference according to your qualifications, I'd go

    Luongo
    Miller
    Lundqvist
then any of Bryz, Vokoun, Thomas

I put Lundqvist behind Miller because although he gets wins, the rangers do allow a lot of goals. Miller should be better this year with the re-vamped D.
Bryzgalov should be solid in Phi as well

With those settings for me its:

    Luongo
    Lundqvist
    Miller

Luongo is most efficient with his starts...low GAA and has a good win/loss ratio.
Lundqvist IMO is the best goalie in the league and NYR's defense is quite underrated. I believe most of them were + last year despite a lot of their forwards being in the - column.
Miller is brilliant as well, i don't think there really needs to be any explanation here he's sick.

Rinne is one that I would consider as well...plays in a great team system and doesn't have very many goals against and makes quite a few saves. Don't know if I would take him over the rest of the guys because his W's likely aren't able to go as high, but if you're looking for a 'safe' bet he's one of the safest ones you could go with.

Price is a great goalie and a workhorse but since your league counts - for L, his value takes a hit.

really torn between Miller and Luongo... Do I dare take both? lol

I have a small fear that Luongo might be tired from the long playoffs and give up some games to Shneider as they showcase him for trade.

I also have a small fear about Miller adjusting to facing less shots...

Lundqvist is my top choice for a money goalie. Every year I expect him to be average and every year, he gets 35-40 wins, starts 70 games, face a lot of shots, always good GAA, and always a lot of shut outs. A very under rated goalie in my opinion and not one of the usual top names that goes too early either. Awesome value if you can put him together with another stud starter goalie.

I kind of think Lundqvist might be the safest bet. Last year was his lowest start total in 5 years, with 68 games. His numbers are always amazing. Normally I'd say Luongo, and that's still very possibly the best choice, but I always worry about a team that makes it to the finals. They often have a poor campaign the following year. Not a rule, but something to watch out for.

Miller, in my opinion isn't as stable as Lundy. Buf and NY should both be better teams this year, I just have more faith in Lundy's health and performance. You know you're getting 70 fantastic games out of him.

I would not take two goalies with the top two picks. I've tried that a couple times myself, and it's always blown up in my face. Goalies are just less reliable. All sorts of things can go wrong there, and I find it's important to get a stud forward in your top two picks.

    Hmmm... safest.
    1. Ryan Miller
    2. Roberto Luongo
    3. Henrik Lundqvist

Miller is a workhorse who still hasn't been "curbed" by a GP limit.
Buffalo improved their defense by TWO players this year (Regehr & Ehrhoff).
I also don't see a ton of offensive firepower in the Northeast (BOS, MON, TOR, OTT).

Obviously, Luongo will only go about 60GP because Schneider is solid.
Lundqvist has accepted less games too... when Biron was signed.

If I had to pick a guy to score the most points, I'd say Lundqvist.
But... you want safest... I'm giving you safest.

Thanks Pengwin. For this pool there is very little movement after the draft so you're stuck with what you get. For me safest is better than a gamble in this pool. My other pool however...
