    Default Markstrom or Neuvirth?

Wondering if I should use Markstrom to go after Neuvirth. Not sure what Washington is doing but I feel like Neuvirth proved his value this year.

If given the choice between the two I'll take Neuvirth even with Vokoun ahead of him. I think Vokun was signed for a one year teem for a reason...the WAS brass believe in their young Gs.

If you make this move do you also have to drop a roster player as Markstrom is a prospect?

I would go neuvirth like kenzle1r said. should be the starter next year on a good washington team. markstrom would be on a bad florida team.

The problem Neuvirth owners face now is this: what happens if Tomas Vokoun plays his heart out and the Caps make it to the Stanley Cup Finals? Does McPhee really let him walk after that, with $10.7M coming off the books between from Semin and Wideman alone, and guys like Carlson, Orlov and Alzner still varying degrees of affordable? And if there is pressure (let alone good reason) to re-sign him, we all know what that means... long-term, big dollars for Evil Kounevil, and Neuvirth stuck in the back-seat again.

Of course the same possibility exists for Markstrom with Jose Theodore signed for the next two years, except that (1) JT is less likely to shine; (2) Panther fans might not even notice if he did; and (3) the Panthers may have a hard time making the playoffs this year and next, let alone advancing far enough to force Dale Tallon's hand.

In the end I still probably prefer Neuvirth, but with significant reservations. He's got similar personal upside (some may disagree with me on that), higher caliber teammates, and a more established track record against NHL competition. The irony of it all is just that because the team in front of him is so promising, the risk of him being sidelined long-term may be nearly as high as it was when he was duking it out with Semyon Varlamov.

If you're not in a rush, I'd keep Markstrom.

This year, neither one is a starter. Period. After that? Who knows. Markstrom has to deal with Theodore. Neuvirth has to deal with Holtby. Guess who is the clear cut favourite in those two duels?

Vokoun is no spring chicken either.
