Default Can protect 3 of these 4 goalies...

Yahoo h2h dynasty league (not the sig team) that is expanding by two owners...so for the expansion draft I cannot keep all four goalies.

Who is the odd man out? Should come down to the last two imo...and I'm actually leaning towards keeping Neuvirth even with Vokoun on board.

    Ilya Bryzgalov
    Cam Ward
    Niklas Backstrom
    Michal Neuvirth

    W, L, GAA, SV%

C - Crosby, Tavares, Patrick, Miller (LW/RW), Rakell (LW)
    LW - Neal (RW), Saad, Palat, Zetterberg (C ), Schmaltz (C ), Domi (C )

D - Josi, Faulk, Werenski, Chabot, Montour, Orpik, Borowiecki, Trouba, Myers

    Definitely protect Bryz and Ward.

Between Neuvirth and Backstrom, it comes down to immediate vs. long-term value. Neuvirth has the higher long-term value, which may materialise as early as next year if Vokoun doesn't re-sign with Washington. But next year Backstrom is the starter and Neuvirth the backup. So if you need the extra wins from your 3rd goalie next year, protect Backstrom, otherwise, protect Neuvirth. I like the latter a lot more long-term.
I can't promise I'll try but I'll try to try.

Agreed. I think that with Ward and Bryzgalov as your 1/2 you can afford to hold Neuvirth for that long term value and utilize him as your 3rd goalie. Ward and Bryz are workhorses and will start the large bulk of their respective team's games.

However if this is a year that you think you can take it down, then having that 3rd starter as insurance will likely be key. Analyse your situation as best you can and make your decision accordingly.

I think the safe play here would be to keep Bryz, Ward (for sure) and then Backstrom. Yes Washington is a much better team than Minnesota but Vokoun wasnt signed to sit on the bench and by the 2012 season Neuvirth will have Holtby breathing down his neck if they dont re-sign Vokoun. I would much rather have 3 bonafide # 1 goalies and less headaches.

    What are the goalie categories?
How many do you start? How much does your third goalie play per week?
    Are there minimum weekly appearances?

Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

Start 2 per night if you choose.

Need at least 3 starts per week...so very attainable...or if you get three great starts you can lay low if you wanted.

I won the league last year so I'm definitely in take it down again mode. Neuvirth was a big part of that too...

True enough, then yeah I would roll with Backstrom then.

Ok, just wondering if any reason to keep Neuvirth over Backstrom but I think you need a dependable number three to give you quality starts and that's Backstrom. You may not know when or how often Neuvirth will start with Vokoun there so Backstrom is the safe option. Even if Neuvirth eventually became the Caps' number one, Backstrom is no slouch and puts up decent numbers on a mediocre team.

Thanks fellas. Ended up keeping Backstrom, probably the best choice. Neuvirth was picked in the top 3 of the expansion draft which was pretty much expected.
