Vokoun?

Hey Justin,

Is it just me or did Vokoun get burned playing musical chairs? I don't see a single destination left in the league that doesn't have their goaltending sown up:

PHI: Bryzgalov/Bobrovsky

NYR: Lundqvist/?
NJD: Brodeur/Hedberg
NYI: DiPietro/Montoya/Nabokov

OTT: Anderson/Auld
TOR: Reimer/Gustavsson

Only one I see being a fit is MAYBE Detroit or Columbus... but both Howard (2.something million I think) and Mason (3+?) have big salaries that would have to be eaten. Detroit would seem likely, but yeesh. Sucks to be a Vokoun owner right about now.

Yeah, not a lot of possible destinations for Vokoun left. I'd make the following adds to your list:

ANA: Hiller/Ellis
DAL: Lehtonen/Raycroft
CBJ: Mason/Dekanich (they signed Dekanich to be a backup goalie)
PIT: Fleury/Johnson
NYR: Lundqvist/Biron
MTL: Price/Budaj
CAR: Ward/Boucher

Basically that leaves Detroit and Washington (don't think Holtby's position as a backup goalie next year is locked up just yet). There's been also some rumors of Edmonton being in the mix. So I would guess Vokoun ends up in one of those three teams or he'll be left without a contract and heads to Europe.

this is good news for me as i can now target the Vokoun owner in my league and try to get him to deal me pick(s) for one of Quick or Lehtonen.

does suck for Vokoun though...i thought for sure he would land a job early on yesterday. as many signings as there were for goalies....nada for Tomas.

could ANA be an option should Hiller's vertigo issues not be resolved? i can't see Vokoun settling as a back-up. I doubt he would even be interested in getting involved in a 1A/1B scenario. On a side note, those tandems are annoying as a fantasy owner.

There are so many goalies out there. Did he get greedy? Probably.

Sucks for me. Got Vokoun and one of the only places where he could realistically end up would screw over my other goalie! FML.

Justin if you could chime in.... What do you expect for starts between Neuvirth/Vokoun at this point?

Lucky me lucky me... I've decided I want Malkin... the owner had Thomas/Price/Neuvirth but had traded Thomas recently. Vokoun should now give me more leverage in making a deal for Malkin happen

No kidding. Very smart move by Vokoun and his agent to see that they were being left out and take a humbling deal to get more opportunity in the future and a solid shot at the cup. Wow.
