As an owner of Neuvirth, Varlamov, and Holtby in two leagues, I am curious on your take of the Caps hiring Olie Kolzig as associate goaltender coach? Thanks!
Bodes best for Holtby. Will be good for Neuvirth. I don't think Varlamov will remain in Washington, but I think Kolzig is a good mentor for a potential band-aid boy, since he was one himself in the latter stages of his career.
Two-goalie-coach systems are becoming more of a trend. The Caps I believe become the 6th team to have a 2-coach system joining the Isles (Sudsie + Dunham), Sharks (Schwab + Thomas), Coyotes (Fuhr + Burke), Kings (Ranford + Dillenbaugh) and Predators (Korn + Vanderklok).
More teams will catch on as time goes on, but this is a great setup for the Caps because Prior has the experience and wisdom, while Kolzig is recent NHL alumni and don't forget he mentored Carey Price + Chet Pickard a bit in Tri-City.
