Default Great News For Bobrovsky Owners

So apparently (if somebody can confirm that would be great) Bobrovsky cannot be sent to the AHL without clearing waivers first because he has played too many games. His salary is quite high and if he were to backup Bryzgalov the cash allotted to goaltending would be overly high.

    Perhaps he gets traded?

It would be great for Bobrovsky owners if he was sent to the AHL. Being thrown to the wolves did not work in the end.

I posted this in the Flyers and Bryz thread but its your confirmation you are looking for.

"Not only would Leighton likely be stashed in Adirondack to keep his salary off the cap, but Bobrovsky for the first time in his career will be susceptible to waivers.

According to Article 13.4 of the NHLs Collective Bargaining Agreement, Bobrovsky lost his waiver exemption even though he is still on his entry-level deal by playing in his 60th career game. The number in the CBA says it includes playoff and regular season games. Coincidentally, Bobrovsky played his 60th career game in Game 3 against Boston."

Oooh this definitely thickens the plot......I can't see them trading Bobrovsky outright. They have to find a way to keep him as a backup to Bryz and will trade a ton of other pieces to make it work. Their achilles heel has been goaltending and unlike last year's pre free agency deal, they will pony up.

If they sign Bryz then it will be a multi year deal, so this will cut into Bobs development. Can't see him clearing waivers.

True, but I still can't see him clearing. Don't tell me a team like PHX doesn't jump right at that.....SWAP!!!!

I could see plenty of teams wanting this goalie...

There is no way that Bobrovsky clears waivers. There's a lot of very significant differences between the goalies that passed through waivers this year and Bob.

Pretty ridiculous he was forced to play over 60 games this season anyways.

He now gets to sit on the bench and watch Bryz play 70 times a year, instead of getting work in to get better.

I can't see the Flyers trading him, although in reality it might be their best choice.

Couldn't agree more. I don't think they should considering they've dropped 2 top goalie prospects; Eriksson and Riopel. Bob is the future of the Flyers goaltending, but as you said, it may be in their best interest ot trade him. His value is quite high right now and may diminish as his role does.

If they sign Bryz they should trade him to PHX. I'm sure the Yotes would love a cheap goalie.

The Flyers, and Homer more specifically, have made a habit of accommodating players/prospects who will not be given a chance to succeed in Philly. It is one of the reasons they are a respected organization.

From what I've read (will try to link the article after work), it sounds like if Bryz is signed long term the team would look to accommodate Bob by finding him an organization where he could play.

I would believe there is some market out there for a 22 yr old goalie who unexpectedly was ahead of development and won nearly 30 games last season (whether that was a product of team or not).

If Bryz signs, I believe Bob will be dealt.
