Schneider and Samuellson for Carter and a third.

Both are up for new contracts after next year and Schneids is an RFA. At worst you could trade him for more then this with a strong season.

Carter has a big hit but the Canucks can fit it in with a lineup like this

    Sedin Sedin Carter/Burrows
    Raymond Kesler Carter/Burrows
    Hodgson Malhotra Hansen
Fourth line making about 2-3 mil

    Edler Ehrhoff
    Hamhuis Bieksa/Ballard/Ehrhoff

i dont think jeff carter is the type of player the canucks need. they already have 2 40-goal scorers and one of the top offenses in the league. a better 2-way winger for kesler would be more appropiate (ideally another burrows lol)

and 11 years is alot to commit to a player.

i voted bryzgalov. shouldnt be too hard finding a take for versteeg if they needed salary space

I voted stick with what they have.

I see bob following the same path as quick in LA.
They have both Bob and Leighton locked in for another year at least.
They will give it one more shot with the group they have and hope for a better showing from their defense come playoff time.

That is the reason they lost, not their goaltending.

If their goaltending actually breaks down next year look for them to make a move then, but this year I just don't see it.

Luongo for Carter one for one.

Luongo 31, contract cap hit 5.33m for 10 years.
Carter 25, contract cap hit 5.25m for 11 years.

    That make sence to me.

    I voted for Bryzgalov.
It would be a small trade, since they are just trading for the rights to negotiate with him since he's at his UFA status. Bryz is done in Phoenix, mark it.

If Philly is smart (they tend to be) they will sign their tender UFA. This will allow them to trade something for futures. Thus, they end up with two or three good kids in the system for the departed body.

Zherdev, Leino, Powe, Carcillo, Nodl, O'Donnell, Boynton, Boucher - need contracts. Even the moving of one big contract is probably not enough, for them to sign a big tender. They would likely need to emulate the Chicago dump. I would wonder that a D-man would become their next target to get moved. Meszeros, Carle, Coburn become the vulnerable guys. They would be very fortunate to move Timonen, at $6.333,333M. Finding a buyer might be very difficult. Up front Carter, Versteeg, Hartnell become vulnerable. With $59.0M accounted for on what is anticipated as a $60.0M cap, they are certainly up against the wall.

    Strategy 1 Bryz
Sign Bryz for about a thousand years, to keep the cap hit down. Can they keep it down to $5.0M over six to 10 years?

    Strategy 2 Vokoun
Sign Vokoun. Aim for a short term seeing if he is more interested in winning a cup than in money. Option two is to sign him to a five year deal, striving to spread out the cap. (not such a good plan as they should be thinking he won't be of value after two or three years.

    Strategy 3 Roloson
This could move right to the top of their list based on $$$
Roloson could become "Strategy 2" if the price is right. Signing him for a couple years for $5.0M could be a most excellent strategy, when considering all elements.

    Strategy 4 Trade
Unload a valuable body for a less proven youngster. This is a win big/lose big strategy. They may gain $3.0-$4.0M of cap space, however, young tenders are also known to have their ups and downs. Consider carefully awesome young tenders like Price, Rask & Mason. They have certainly not managed to spend their entire careers in the good books! I tend to feel that the other suggested tenders are not as secure as the trio listed above! Are these other tenders really substantially ahead of Bobrovsky?

Philly has shown that they are willing to roll the dice though!

Carter to Pho for the rights to Bryz is making the rounds, and does make sense.

Given the out cry in Philly, pretty sure that they will get their man. Ilya Bryzgalov

I just don't see the logic in Philly going after a long-term guy like Bryz. I think Bob with a year or two at 30-40 starts could turn into a very good goalie. I actually think Nabokov could be a good move for them....he's cheap, he's on a short term contract, there's the Russian "mentor" factor, and I don't care what people say about the Sharks, the guy is proven.

And I still do not understand the Schneider rumors. How is he anymore of a sure thing than Bob at this point?

I would say he is much more of a sure thing because of his pedigree. Same with most of the tenders I put on this list.

Philly has been ousted from the play-offs the last two years when there only real weakness has been their tender. However they refused to address it both times. Do you really think they should try that plan again?

I was fooling around at capgeek.com to see what scenarios would allow the team to keep Carter, and add a Goaltender.

As best I can figure, allowing Zherdev, and O'Donnell to walk, trading Hartnell and Carcillo, giving Bobrovsky a year in the minors, and re-signing Powe, Nodl, Leino and possibly Syvret to modest increases would allow the Flyers approximately $3 million to spend on a goaltender, another million or so could be had by passing on Syvret and Testwuide for cheaper options, and a larger than expected cap increase.

Another 900k could be saved by sacrificing Shelley.

That gives them 4-5 million at best, ...maybe Vokoun dollars, and not much of value to trade if they want to keep Carter and Leino (im estimating $3.2 million).

If they were to let Leino walk in favor of a less expensive playmaking winger, Bryzgalov becomes attainable, and the cap pressure is eased.

Here's what I was able to come up with.

    FORWARDS
    James Van Riemsdyk ($1.654m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jeff Carter ($5.272m)
    Michael Testwuide ($0.900m) / Daniel Briere ($6.500m) / Ville Leino ($3.200m)
    Kris Versteeg ($3.083m) / Mike Richards ($5.750m) / Andreas Nodl ($0.900m)
    Darroll Powe ($0.900m) / Blair Betts ($0.700m) / Jody Shelley ($1.100m)
    / / Zac Rinaldo ($0.544m)
    DEFENSEMEN
    Kimmo Timonen ($6.333m) / Chris Pronger ($4.921m)
    Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m) / Matt Carle ($3.437m)
    Braydon Coburn ($3.200m) / Oskars Bartulis ($0.600m)
    / Danny Syvret ($0.750m)

I think Carter would be enough. He comes with a big price tag but I'm sure LA doesn't want the Price/Halak distraction all the time. This would be a good return. Carter does have a long contract though and the middle will be clogged for the time being by Kopitar and Schenn.

Maybe I'm way off. I would love to hear some other opinions on this specific trade. What would Philly have to do to get Bernier?
