I understand it's a business and I'm not suggesting Vancouver might do it for charitable reasons I'm suggesting that it's not good for chemistry to have a disgruntled player on your team and I have a feeling that Mr. Schneider (1st round pick wunderkid) would't be best pleased to be playing backup at 27 because his team is unwilling to allow the opposition to get their hands on him. These sorts of situation can be bad for business and could tarnish Vancouver management in some players eyes. As ruthless as business is there seems to be an element of integrity among much of the hockey community.

From Friedman's most recent 30 thoughts:

    7. Was surprised no one took at shot at Michael Leighton for a $775,000 US cap hit next season. Asked a team where it might have been a fit, and was told there were two reasons: first, with the bonus cushion gone next year, clubs may want their backup making even less than that. Second, they were scared off by his history of back trouble.

If teams are balking at Leighton's salary as a backup it seems increasingly unlikely that Vancouver would be willing to pay what Schneider might fetch.

Great discussion guys. I appreciate your input and am soaking it all up. Definately will go with Schneider. Tired of Varly wasting my IR spots. Keep the thoughts coming in.

I think that's a good move. He's probably the safer bet. If you have time to wait and decide this summer, that might be worth considering... if Varlamov (RFA) were to be traded to Colorado, for instance, it could be a pretty interesting scenario.

4horse, Leighton and Schneider are apples and oranges, and different teams have different philosophies on that. But my point isn't that he's going to stay, rather that much like Friedman was surprised when Leighton didn't move, we could be surprised by Schneider staying put as well. Doesn't mean it's likely to happen, just that we have more logic than actual insight to rely on.
