It's a long shot, BUT Varlamov could get hurt and then it's just Neuvy either losing two games, or getting hurt. Could happen. If your alternative was to draft a player would go three rounds and get five points, that may be a worthwhile risk

Not really. Holtby's the only one who can be sent down without clearing waivers, so they're faced with either sending him down, carrying three goaltenders (not really tenable) or have to give up on (a) an insanely talented, if oft-injured 23 year old in Varlamov, or (b) a 23 year old who brought home consecutive Calder trophies and is looking for his first shot at the Cup.
They can always call him up if "the Big Ev scenario" plays out...

You obviously don't know what I mean then. Holtby is their #3, if they have to go with him that means they are in a huge hole in the series, possible down 0-2 or 0-3.
The Caps are smart. Holtby is inexperienced and who knows how well he'd play in the playoffs.
We had 18 franchises drafting 10 skaters/goalies each. Holtby was the 176th player drafted and as I had 4 other Caps figured what the heck...not much left to pick from especially since didn't want to take a NYR/Car...so took a long shot.
Last night during the draft I had it firmly planted in my 10 beer mindthat he'd play.I'm seeing now he won't get any points unless the scenario mentioned above plays out where someone gets hurt. Oh well.
