RNH at $7M for the next 5 years would be worth every penny.

Nurse at anything more than $6M is too much. He's playing ok right now but it's a lot of luck. His advanced stats have seen a significant drop while he's playing with Barrie when compared to Bear. He's not worth anything close to $8M. $8M would be the 11th highest cap hit for dmen in the NHL. Here's the list of all the dmen with a cap hit of $8M per year. How many of them are worth their contract?

    Erik Karlsson - $11,500,000
    Drew Doughty - $11,000,000
    Roman Josi - $9,059,000
    PK Subban - $9,000,000
    Alex Pietrangelo - $8.800,000
    Oliver Ekman-Larsson - $8,250,000
    John Carlson - $8,000,000
    Thomas Chabot - $8,000,000
    Brent Burns - $8,000,000
    Jacob Trouba - $8,000,000

The Oilers played themselves going continually short with Nurse and now he's headed to UFA where you have to think he'll be able to leverage the Trouba deal. Who fills that #1 role for the Oilers if Nurse walks. He will have all the leverage.

I do suspect we'll see more players into this ballpark this summer with Hughes, Makar, Heiskanen and Dahlin all up as RFAs. Nurse isn't in that group but also has more leverage. It's almost unheard of for top pair defensemen to get walked to UFA in their mid-20s.

Hoping the below replacement level Mike Smith can take this non-playoff roster of a team to a win over the Canucks tonight.

In the end, it's all about the "dub-ya", and he managed to get it.

Holy Hell, I went to bent at 3-1 assuming the Mike Smith bubble had popped and that we might see Koskinen out in relief. HUGE comeback to keep the momentum going. A 4-game win streak against the teams they need to be stealing points from the most? That's good stuff. Can't wait to catch up on this game on the weekend when I have time.

Not a bad performance for a below replacement level goalie.
