Yup exactly...just make sure you have signed the contract before you take the shot... just in case its a career ending injury!

There must be other underlying reasons, otherwise I don't see why he would make that bet. There are downsides to short-term contracts for sure, but there are plenty of positives as well.

According to Sports Illustrated, he also has a bet that he won't get married or have kids before the age of 45 unless he wins the Cy Young three times. Sounds like this dude marches to the beat of his own drum (and all the power to him). The SI story says that he figures by the time his arbitration period runs out (three more years) he estimates he'll have pulled in 40 million - enough to be comfortable for the rest of his life.

He's making 6.525mill this yr. If he pitches well he'll make like 7-10mill next yr. With that amount right there you can retire.
If he can get about 20% more on the 1yr deal than multi-year deal, it's actually a great plan. Even if he has a down yr, he'll get paid over the 2yrs more than what a multi-year deal would pay him.

This dude has grown on me lol...For awhile I thought this guy was a dick because of a couple of minor incidents w/ the Jays but over time I've started to realize the guy is just a weird/funny guy lol. Pretty funny stuff haha
