It's oK, sort of an early 1900s boarding-school, poor family trying to make it vs. rich family type of thing.

I still pick up my set of five from asoiaf and read a spot chapter every night before bed.
For me, Martin's story crushes anything else written in the last 30 years. When you can spot read any chapter of any book... it's an incredible tale.

Still waiting on Justin Cronin's 3rd book of his trilogy on "The Passage".
    2010 1st book
    2012 2nd book
...dragging out completion of his 3rd book which was supposed to be SPRING 2016... finish it, damn you! (shaking fist!)

I've re-read the first two books and just finished the trilogy. Simply put, it's a brilliant, epic story.

I'm into Charles Bukowski's "Notes of a Dirty Old Man" -- this guy is a real piece of work, every other word is a either a curse or genital. What an a--hole! yet also so much fun, entertaining to read.

If you enjoy WWI novels, you need to read Regeneration by Pat Barker... amazing! Just finised. It's about a psychiatric hospital dealing with shell shock victims - to 'regenerate' them back to the front lines.

Specifically about a poet, who writes an open letter to Command about how the war is no longer about good v. evil, but the advancements of individual nation states agenda's. Essentially, historical fiction as Sassoon, Rivers & Owens were real patients & psychiatrist a the hospital (Rivers the Dr.) The 1st in a trilogy. Seriously, one of the best books I've read in a while

Needed a break from all my sports biographies.

Giving American Gods a shot. Heard the show is kinda cool and I tend to like reading it before seeing it.

I went into a good reading mode prior to NHL playoffs.
Went on a "guy book" kick.

Read two books by Jonathan Franzen - Corrections and Freedom. Both fantastic.
Also read 1.25 by Cormac McCarthy - The Road and Blood Meridian (current). The Road is a nice easy dystopian read. Blood Meridian is a bit of a grind (hard when good hockey is on) - but a solid write by him.
(pretty sure I got both those author names from this site, so thanks to those that have mentioned them)

Also read a couple good spy books from mid/late-20th century:
The Spy that Came in From the Cold - by John LeCarre
Eye of the Needle - by Ken Follett

All six of these were really effin good reads.

For bathroom / pre-sleep reading I have Aziz Ansari's Modern Romance upstairs.
Its pretty solid for 5-10 pages at a time. Less goofy than typical Ansari... and shows he can seriously delve into research topics without voiding their merit by sillyness.
Its non-standard publication, includes a few charts and text message screens.
And, through first 50 pages, it is really seriously looking at the positives and negatives of modern dating. (though I'm only through the "setting up a date" part so far)

Oh - and pat on the back for me - I'm a "library dad" these days.
Take my daughters weekly, for past two years, and we get lots of books - for no cost.
(The public library has to be considered one of the most taken for granted resources that people just don't use any more... the wealth of free knowledge and entertainment there... mercy...)

Such a different book - loved it. I now own 8 Gaimen books. This man's mind thinks so differently than most. Enjoy!

Love McCarthy, one of the best. haven't picked up Blood Meridian yet, but I've got several others including the Border Trilogy (All th Pretty Horses -book 1).

Yeah... but since I'm actually studying it the literary narcolepsy is less than ideal.

Just finished Stephen King's latest trilogy: Mr Mercedes, Finders Keepers and End of Watch. It was a very good thriller that kept me interested all the way through.

I've decided to change it up a bit and try some classics that I've never got around to reading before. The first:

    1984 - George Orwell

I've also ordered two more to follow:

Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
    Fahrenheit 451- Ray Bradbury
