I don't think he lands with Seattle for three reasons.
    1) Too far west for him.
    2) He doesn't seem like a Ron Francis guy.
    3) Francis has said he's likely waiting until a lot closer to the expansion draft before picking a coach.

I think he takes the year off for "huntin and fishin" and takes his pick during the offseason.

There's no reason for him to rush into anything.

Detroit as a landing spot for him just makes so much sense.

Jeff Blashill, Detroit's head coach, signed a 2yr extension on April 2nd, 2019. He's been the head coach since 2015-16 season. At that time he had signed a 4yr, 0.800k/yr deal at the time. So signing a 2yr deal in 2019 does suggest the ownership is setting a line for him.

Teams with coaches with 1-2yrs left on their deal:
    Arizona - Tocchet 1yr, 1.5mill
    Bruins - Cassidy 2yr, unknown
    Flames - Peters 2yr, unknown
    Canes - Brind'Amour 2yr, unknown
    Blackhawks - Colliton 2yr, unknown
    CBJ - Tortorella 2yr, unknown
    Wings - Blashill 2yr, unknown
    Wild - Boudreau 1yr, 2.625mill
    Preds - Laviolette 2yr, unknown
    Devils - Hynes 1yr, unknown
    Sharks - DeBoer 2yr, unknown
    Leafs - Keefe 1yr, unknown
    Vegas - Gallant 2yr, unknown
Caps - Reirden unknown term and unknown salary
Jets - Maurice, unknown term and unknown salary

I can't see it happening in Detroit. I guess it all depends on the Babcock/Yzerman relationship. Stevie was Detroit's VP during Mike's early years there but was gone by 2009.

No it doesn't. Extensions mean nothing for coach security. Results matter.

Another guy that signed an extension not that long ago was Ken Holland. How did that work out?

Ken Holland like....like the GM of Edmonton?

A 5mill/yr deal for multiple years def gives a coach more security than a 2yr 1.6 deal especially when that deal is half the length of their previous one.

    ---EDIT---
The Leafs are currently trying to get an NHL contract done for Keefe. He was on an AHL deal and did not include any provisions on if he was promoted to the NHL. Sounds like it'll get done today.

I think he meant Holland in Detroit.

I dunno, he's apparently sitting on the bench in street clothes at practice. Keefe is already benching him :-P

If anyone is interested why Commodore (and by extension, lots of NHLers) hate Babcock so much, can listen to the first ~20 minutes or so of this for some insight

Keefe signs for 3 years. This year and another two after, according to Friedman.
